LG G Watch (1.2GHz Qualcomm processor, 4GB memory, microUSB, Bluetooth 4.0) black (accessories)

Customer Review

UPDATE: After I let the clock last a few months lie unused in the closet, I have unearthed since Android Lollipop and the current Watch firmware again and gave her a second chance. Google has now made some improvements. I've got my vote, therefore, increases and extends the review accordingly.

The LG G Watch is the result of Google's first steps in the world of "wearables". The design of the clock is handsome, if a little clunky, but that's a matter of taste. The processing is noble. Apart from the bracelet, which has fallen quite short of simple plastic and well. I have in the meantime replaces it with a commercial black metal bracelet, which enhances the clock equal again.

The battery lasts loose by one day. That to me is perfectly fine. I invite my smartphone every night anyway, now holding the SmartWatch.

Loaded the clock is supplied in a charging cradle, where it is securely via magnet. Unfortunately, the direction is not coded, and so it happened at the beginning that I rotated through 180 ° put the clock in the shell, it was of course not charged. Received some harsh words, which happened to me only once.

After the initial setup and a brief instruction in the operation it is then going directly. The clock displays the time on selectable dials. An upcoming appointments from the diary she remembers reliably. A pedometer also shows (even quite accurately) the steps to which one has come in the last seven days. And all the notifications that appear in the notification bar of the smartphone are displayed on the clock, accompanied by a short vibration. Likewise, the clock does to incoming calls by vibrating alert. Tones makes the clock not the way, which I find very pleasant. You only vibrates. On the other hand, it is thus hardly suitable as an alarm clock for the nightstand.

And so I was initially very enthusiastic about the clock. In particular, because it subtly reminds me of appointments and incoming mails and short messages. But the initial joy is gone now lost a little. The concept of Google Wear is simply not sophisticated, but what you then noticed at all kinds of things:

* The display is easy to dim in standby. Outside one can already with little sunshine the time barely read. There is also no brightness sensor that adjusts the display to the lighting conditions. A clock that you can not even just reading quickly, is quite without purpose.

* Functions as the weather display will need to activate Google Now. Then the clock is also still the same as meaningful information such as the duration of the next journey to work or home. Google Now suck during which empty the smartphone battery while it creates motion profiles. If you call via voice control the weather from another city, the temperature is displayed only in Fahrenheit. I found no way to convert.

* The media player can be remotely controlled, but only the functions Pause, Forward and Back. If you want to adjust the volume, the smartphone you have to touch it again. It is better to make the app "Music Boss for Wear", a sensible investment. UPDATE: Meanwhile, the built-in Media Player is very pleasant to use, enclosed volume. Another app is no longer really necessary.

* There are a total of not many apps for the clock, and hardly any other dials. The programming interfaces for their own dials is not yet approved by Google, and Google advises currently also from them to develop their own dials. Preloaded are however quite gloomy. UPDATE: There is now the interfaces and even some very nice dials.

* Serves the clock using voice control. So the theory. I tried to set a timer for 9 minutes per language. My first attempt put an alarm clock at 9 clock. My second attempt marked another alarm in 9 minutes. Only the third attempt began a countdown. Only how to delete now, the two clock? In smartphone they do not appear. A little tip: The clock has its own alarm clock.

* Messages from the message bar are displayed on the clock. However, the apps have to be suitable for this. In threema for example, only the first three or four words appear. For full read and reply to the message you have then again the smartphone from his pocket pick. UPDATE: mitterweile some apps support the clock already, for example, threema.

* When I wear the clock under my raincoat, the display is touched all the time. This not only leads to a permanent short vibration of the clock, which is quite irritating, but disguised, for example, the selected dial unintentionally. One way to lock the screen, do not exist. I have the clock eventually pulled annoyed and put in his pocket. UPDATE: There is now a Cinema Mode, which disables the clock until you tap twice on the screen. Practical for such situations.

* The clock can indeed be off by a somewhat hidden menu, but turn only by inserting into the charging cradle. On air travel you should only switch to airplane mode so, otherwise one is possibly the goal because with better Uhrattrappe if you have any loading facility at hand.

* In Internet forums, there are reports that the charging contacts would work with some equipment corroded by the skin perspiration. In individual cases, the clock should thus can no longer be loaded. A software update has resolved this issue by the manufacturer now. According to XDA forum flows despite further update on the current contacts, and to my clock corroded a contact on slowly.

Conclusion: Those who buy this clock, should be aware that it is an early adopter. The opportunities are there, but Google and LG will have to put in work to make the Android Wearables Alltagstauglich. My good, old-fashioned, reliable Casio wristwatch was my G Watch at least not really displace.
