The main section of the illustrated book are around 70 full- or double-sided, color outstandingly successful reproductions of paintings and sketches that were created between the 40s and 2005. The motif are Wohnzimmmer, bedrooms, libraries habitats spanning five decades. Elsa Schiapparellis legendary Living Room with purple sofa, Greta Garbo last apartment, the living room of Ronald Reagan and Richard Rogers Library (with dog), they all are the star of this book.
Sometimes with generous brushstrokes, sometimes with fine pencil lines, always with gloomy transparency, Goodman creates detail, without ever being fussy.
Unlike conventionally photographed interiors not you see the rooms as uninvolved observer. Rather, one has the feeling of being able to stand in the middle of the space and move in it. Perhaps take a book off the shelf or pet the dog on the sofa? It seems possible.
Interior painting is not a widespread art form. Not only because this book is special. It's too good to gather dust as Coffee Table Book. And it belongs in every serious collection relating to interior design and / or art.
