This device is not reliable - so it serves its primary purpose is not (OS X 10.8 and 10.9) - reliable backups.

I bought this unit to replace my Sharkoon Dock (in USB 2.0), because I was too slow USB 2.0. So was needed Firewire 800. This was the motivation to buy because my Macbook Pro has no USB 3.0.
My main benefit in the Sharkoon and also the Freecom Dock Quattro: the fastest possible backups with hard drives that I store somewhere (safety backups, partly from Time Machine backups or our photo files).
And by rapid unpacking the plates from the sleeve, tuck, and store backup back into the envelope.
The first delivered Quattro dock did not work completely, often there were crashes with error messages during the backup - with error messages that pointed more to hard drive failures. Some hard drives that worked at Sharkoon, started not even high in the Freecom Quattro. Hard drives that had abortions in Freecom, functioned perfectly in Sharkoon.
So the Error Freecom Quattro had to lie.
After some back and forth with the support I received a replacement unit. This now started all disks, but with longer backups there again periodically error messages that indicated loudly system log back towards errors in the respective disks. I thought there was overheating or any problems of hard drives. But by then reconnect the slow Sharkoon Dock showed that the disks were not the problem again!
With such a device, I can not do anything. I need a reliable way to drive fast backups.
Once I have the manufacturers given the opportunity to me to provide a decent Freecom Quattro Dock, and that's enough.
Now I have added myself a Delock Adapter Thunderbolt, and have now all "problem disks", with which the Freecom Quattro not klarkam, no problems at all. The backups go ahead rapidly and there are no error messages in the system log.
Things can be so simple ....
If these reliability problems and crashes would not, the Freecom Quattro dock could be a good device - Bundled cables and connectors are available in sufficient numbers. (Only missing Thunderbolt).
Only the main feature is just a complete failure. Many good reviews here I have to admit that I am an individual case, but can not change the ;-) with me there is only one star and the recommendation to avoid the device well.
