Tintin Volume XXI

The Castafiore Emerald (Hardcover)

Customer Review

Just a little history if you do not mind ... Tintin in Tibet was the first history of the series to have a relatively simple scenario. Hergé decided to re-offend in The Castafiore Emerald, which begin to appear in the weekly Tintin in 1963. This album is the only series where nothing happens. But Hergé managed to keep us in suspense until the end.

In this comic even if it starts like any other, not the heroes on an adventure. All the action takes place in the castle or in the garden. In the story, we find an accumulation of false leads: The gypsies that appear at the beginning of the story, the photographer Tempo Di Roma escaping when the jump shot, Igor Wagner strangely leaves his piano, the mysterious animal that prowls the night in the attic. Only after the departure of the Castafiore Tintin will follow the track of the magpie.

In this story, the characters seem to be less fit than usual. This is surely the fault of the Diva, especially as we can see here that he knows a woman of authority but still more amiable than Peggy Alcazar women. Thus Haddock, usually so full of life remains for most of the story in a wheelchair. Will see virtually no drink let alone drunk. Thompson and Thomson are even more slips than usual. Even telephone mistakes are much more numerous. But the suspense is present until the end. Hergé has captivated readers with almost anything. But from the next album, the style will become the same as before Tintin in Tibet.
