OPERATION AS External fuse:
I bought the two HDDs with the intention to operate in an external housing as a backup in a RAID 1 array.
Unwrapped, installed, commissioned, data backed up - everything is good! At least for the beginning
After a year of trouble-free operation, one of the two plates has suddenly adopted without warning, it was simply no longer accessible, and not directly on the motherboard. Mausetot how I confirmed my dealer and a new WD Green (EZRX) put on the counter. The new record I have reintegrated by Rebuild operation in the RAID array - tedious, but my data were first again "safe".
OPERATION AS secondary plate in the computer:
2014 I have put together and decided to terminate the RAID array of two WD GREEN a new computer. One remains as simple backup disk in the external housing, but this time without RAID Gedöhns, the other comes in addition to the system-SSD as a data disk in the computer.
Because 2 TB is a lot of space and it more than half is free, I wanted to install some games on the GREEN. From the first game came the disillusionment: Again and again in the short Nachladeruckler minute intervals or even shorter times to make the game fun to naught. The short trailer are always accompanied by a clicking of HDD. I have a strong suspicion that the read head each time only have to drive out of the parking position if data for the game need to be recharged - Tags: "IntelliPark" and "Load Cycle". There are indeed apparently an unofficial WDIDLE fix to extend the interval of the read head parking of such officially unsupported "firmware intervention" I leave but generally prefer the finger.
CONCLUSION:
Yes, the GREEN Series has slightly disappointed me, playing games is manifestly inappropriate and even as a data grave has a "green" already capitulated after one year. Whether only the great "IntelliPark" feature is to blame, remains to be seen.
In spite of my bad experiences with the GREEN Series I trust continues on HDDs from WD, but with a different color. ;-)
Until SSDs from 1TB affordable, I use for gaming boards the BLUE or BLACK series and should the two in operation located GREEN plates shortened lifetime, I may have recourse to the RED series.
