The solution, however, is simple, inexpensive and makes HD recordings from virtually any source possible, which has an HDMI output, even if the there out continuous signal (as is the rule with PayTV) is provided with the HDCP copy protection: you need to a currently about 25 euro expensive converter called CV 0053 from LogiLink (). This one connects the HDMI port of the device, is to be taken up by the, with the component input of EZRecorder Plus. An additional power supply via USB was not necessary, at least in my case. I assume that in my source definitely HDCP is active, but has so far never prevented the converter because properly do its job.
It should be noted, of course, is that by the output of the converter first converted from digital to analog and then digitized into H264 format the recorder during recording again (the resulting files have the extension mp4). Thus, there is, despite FullHD resolution a certain loss of quality, which manifests itself in minimal lesser sharpness and slightly less strong colors. But the shots are still worlds better than about PAL or DVD resolution, so that the effort is definitely worthwhile.
The EZRecorder has so far done its job reliably, even with a timer recording. Two small drawbacks that could be solved with a future software update:
- The equipment needs for stable shots preferably a NTFS formatted USB flash drive or an NTFS formatted disk (FAT32 led to me when playing slightly jerky shots, probably the performance is not sufficient then all off). But if one z. B. programmed a two-hour recording, obtained as a result of a single (and then, of course, huge) mp4 file. This has been recognized or played with me on any of my players. The (somewhat complicated) solution: each program four half-hour recordings, together covering the entire two-hour period. Then you later four consecutive mp4 files which are clearly below 4 GB per file can be played back smoothly due to the file size and outside the EZRecorders.
- The remote sensor ("IR blaster") works for me still work, to automatically change the channel number, but does not switch on my receiver. This means that I have to let my receiver for timer recording always on. But even this can live, if one ensures adequate air circulation.
Despite these minor drawbacks makes the EZRecorder high quality recordings and to my knowledge, by its timer function unique in the market. In conjunction with the CV 0053 Converter of LogiLink he is worth gold for all sources for which no PVR function is available.
