Conclusion:
Holly Black was new to me, but I have experience with Cassandra Clare's books and found the writing style always fantastic. Here I was not disappointed. The book is great written and very interesting and exciting to read. It is told in the third perspective and provides the reader while still the thoughts of protagonists very well. The descriptions are not extravagant but so good that you feel immersed in a new world. The English is straightforward.
The characters are all provided with little peculiarities, so each of them has a particularly. One can identify a reader directly to the one or the other character. There are here, as so often in books and Clare, the characters are not like they seem at first glance.
The plot is well thought out and exciting. Call to simply fail - but also in the fact he failed. Although his father has repeatedly warned of the Magisterium, call finds it to be exciting there and to be educated in magic. He suddenly friends and his bad leg is his for the first time not all the way. But not everything is just beautiful. A dark prophecy a secret his father and some evidence points to something sinister. Now it's out to call whether the warnings of his father were entitled.
The story is exciting, very well thought out and leaves little to question. Clare fans come here again their money's worth.
Overall, a great introduction to a 5-splitter! Exciting story, interesting characters and an exciting style of writing make for a great reading pleasure. The only drawback is that it takes so long until you see Volume Two!
What I particularly liked:
The surprises in the plot!
