Too bad, kid!

I was looking for a quick little slide scanner, which is independent of the system as possible, since I usually work with Linux. My "old" CanoScan 8400F was very slow, taking up much space and was not compatible with Linux. Now I was looking forward to the little ones here who stood under the Christmas tree.

DC I tried it and was very disappointed.

1. Display: you can see hardly anything on the screen, the resolution is abysmal. How there still should perform color / brightness adjustments, is beyond me. A device with AV-in jack I do not possess. And the USB port is only for power supply.

2. Operation: what originally looked after amazingly fast scanning, emerged in dropouts. The scan no hourglass and then the picture to be stored, but only a black screen without menu, which passed only by further pressing OK again in the live image will appear. Scanning or even store was no longer possible by restarting the device. Only after I let it stand for a while and re-launched, scanning worked again.

3. Scan quality: The has not truly blew me away. But when I then made the comparison with the CanoScan, it was even more. There lay worlds apart! The colors of the Rollei were completely overridden in default. As mentioned in some reviews, the images appear consistently reddish. A blue in the original field on sunset sky was completely "swallowed" by the red and orange. In the original sharp areas seemed blurred. A relatively dark recording was totally hidden, while a similar too dark even if the brightness of the unit has not been altered. Overall, the color of the CanoScan seemed much more natural, without having had to adjust anything. A similar result, I do not get with the Rollei. As for the resolution, was also here the CanoScan clearly superior (though he "only" max. 3200 dpi true but has).

4. Speed: As is the Rollei DF-S 190 SE tip (because if he does not have any dropouts -see 2.) Although the CanoScan takes significantly longer, but he also has on-board software that takes care of scratches and dust ( because without you the va Rollei is the rare hinbekommen as quickly filthy). So then you have to do with the image processing significantly more, which indeed also costs time and it adds that the time saved in the end by the quick scan is no longer so high.

I will send the unit back today. Pity! Will it change CanoScan 9000F against the Mark II. The result of the comparison has convinced me again 100 Euro draufzulegen, but to get a good quality. Although the well again so big but has -Thanks SANE Linux support.
