USPs:
+ Ambilight: I would personally (and certainly my children) never want to miss and improves the subjective cinematic experience ingeniously enormously - plenty of free (white) panel provided next to the TV.
A real eye-experience for people who do not yet know. Moreover, by the perceived contrast in dark scenes is enhanced enormously and the infamous flashlight effect loses all fear.
+ Net TV: About 60 mostly well-functioning services / websites can be directly selected. Including but not limited Internet Radio, RSS and various video services and news sites. If that's still not enough, has a admittedly not exactly lightning quick Opera browser access to the entire Internet (though without Flash).
+ Screen in radio mode switchable:
Pressing the Teletext button (depending on the firmware version with the Subtitle button) while listening to digital or analog radio ensures a complete shutdown of the screen and then reduces consumption to about 40 watts.
+ In addition to Sony Z5800 is the only current device that fits well in a 100cm wide closet.
Energy consumption:
The device makes its Edge LED backlight for an extremely low energy consumption at the same level as the Samsung UE-series or Sony 40WE5. The built-in light sensor which advertised in the data sheet 104 Watt are really ever actually consumed only in bright sunlight - otherwise just between an average of 55 watts in economical and max. 80 Watt in exaggerated garish luminous settings.
Other pluses:
+ Very natural and balanced picture without setting orgies
+ Low-reflection panel
+ Very, very good view even in standard definition and analogue material (analog cable, Wii). In my opinion the best on the market.
+ No / hardly Soap effect compared to its competitors (especially Samsung).
+ Good coloration of dark areas with excellent contours (No cartoon to achieve artificially high contrast values in comparison tests).
+ Despite the low overall depth still good sound at the familiar high level Philips. In direct comparison to other Edge LED devices, he would even be very, very well known. (Clicks and / or humming sounds - as mentioned in some forums - can I absolutely do not notice)
+ All connections also performed without breakout cable. Some of them also suitable for wall mounting.
+ Very low input lag in PC mode with near-perfect representation to 1080p even at VGA input. (HDMI anyway)
+ Well-functioning light sensor ensures that the image always looks good even in the same variety of lights and at different times.
+ Future-proof CI + slot. Works with Unitymedia digital cable network.
+ Additional digital, HD satellite tuner (DVB / S Philips) available as an accessory.
What I find not so good:
- No PIP, PAP from external sources
- No full QWERTY keyboard can be connected
- No analog video outputs (eg DVD recorder, additional projectors)
- Digital audio output coaxial (not every HTS)
- Wireless Bridge (about 45, - in addition necessary for wireless Internet connections)
Conclusion:
In this price range and panel size my absolute top appliance!
(As mentioned in the personal comparison with the currently latest models of competitors: Samsung 40UE7090, Sony 40Z5800, Sony 40WE5, Sharp Aquos LC-40LE700E, LG Electronics 42SL9500)
PS
Meanwhile, with the Philips PFL7605H an improved successor appeared, which is also available in other panel sizes, without that this would be reflected in a higher price.
It should be noted from May 2010 and the Philips xxPFL8605K, which is equipped among other things with DVB-S, 200Hz and 3D capabilities.
