The relatively lightweight device is pushed to the hot shoe of the camera. It is important that the device is fully plugged so that all existing contacts for TTL metering, automatic zoom and so are closed on. The plastic counter nut secures the whole then fixed on the camera. All automatic features of the flash unit to function perfectly when - elsewhere it has been already pointed out - the built-in diffuser for wide angle is fully inserted. The flash unit zooms in parallel with the camera zoom with up to 105 mm. The illumination is very even. A large meeting room with ten-meter-high ceiling was illuminated with 24 mm wide-angle completely without vignetting in the corners, where I have flashed against the ceiling. The guide number 42 brings the stocks here. Portraits in interesting zoom range from 90 to 105 mm also succeed very well. For even softer light I looked at the JJC FC-26D Flash Diffuser (White) gained for the Sunpak PZ-42X flash unit. The Sunpak is externally absolutely identical to the Fujifilm device. The softbox fits perfectly on the Fujifilm flash unit. When flashes against the ceiling, the small milk-white plastic branches a part of the light to lighten to the front. Thus, the camera results are very successful in both portraits and close-ups (flowers etc.). Can the Fujifilm EF-42 really recommend, price-performance good.
Update October 2013 The flash unit is now half a year in use. I do not want to miss. A giant light in very large bright rooms. Well matched automatically zoom in conjunction with the system camera. Always use the flash unit in conjunction with the above-described diffuser softbox.
