Also I am, after the space on my external hard drive TrekStor DataStation maxi mu 500GB External Hard Drive (incl. Nero BackItUp 2 Essentials), 8MB cache was more than just, for choosing a product from Western Digital. 1.5TB had me for the time being still too much, also the price was just more than tempting!
Before I get to the actual product, the obligatory praise to Amazon and the ultra-fast delivery. Again everything was great!
To drive itself ...
First Unpacking: hard drive well and safely packed, hard to dispose of plastic waste, mainly paper. Exemplary! Plate inserted in a black plastic housing, whose sides, the top is shiny but kept roughened. Engraved central (probably in the form of already poured so) flaunts the rectangular WD logo. It acts (although compared to TrekStor not metal) high quality and is considerably lighter than its predecessor on my desk. Creaking or crackling can be heard none, gaps can not be determined.
Connection: USB cable in drive and available port on the computer, power adapter into the outlet and also the back of the plate - and off you go! At a separate on-off switch has been omitted. This for information only! (I think: where no unnecessary switch because nothing can go wrong!).
First test run: it is already connected ?! Yes she is! The LED, which announced the operation of the board, is at the back next to the terminals. Thus they can not interfere with the user, however, is not directly in view. Both variants of the attachment have probably pros and cons ...
Light burns so, but I can not hear anything! Therefore once briefly put his hand on the housing ... almost imperceptible you can feel the gentle vibration of the plate inside. Even if me the minimum noise never bothered no comparison to older models, not even my TrekStor. Somehow as a switch from VW Golf in a Bentley Continental (please only in terms of the noise understand !!!): ;-)
So, as a next step I have taken the test with h2testw shortly. Write 1000MB data and then read were on my six year old Fujitsu Siemens Amilo notebook following values:
Writing: 16.8 MB / s
Read: 18.9 MB / s
From experience, I, however, know that on newer computers significantly higher values are reached. Am still very satisfied!
As a next step, I immediately began to transfer my old data to the new drive. This is about 430GB music and video material, as well as many thousands of images, etc., so that the two plates had to do properly.
Even after an hour and no more increase in the housing temperature was observed, the performance seemed to be consistently high and noise is de facto not be determined, even if only the tiny notebook fan hums next door!
As for the long-term test, I'll adjust my review on the occasion of content or complete.
For now only remains for me to say that I would have a better purchase in this price class hardly can make: the perfect board for all who want to quickly and cheaply protect their data without having to compromise on quality!
Absolute recommendation from my side!
