A trip to Crete first, which all lovers of Greece find fresh and warm atmosphere, but also a trip back in time, when there are only a few decades, the lepers were exiled to the island of Spinalonga. These discoveries are made through four generations of women, with thread the fate of the Petrakis family, fate takes more than his share of the Greek tragedy tunes. The reader is quickly carried away by the thread of the story, fluid and exciting, and we almost forget the starting point of the story, namely the desire of the young Alexis to enjoy his stay in Greece to lift the veil on the mysterious past of his mother. Holiday book in the best sense, "The Island" sheds light on without any sordid and cruel realities still close while leaving the spotlight to hope. A reading both enjoyable, informative and exotic that I recommend.
