The long good-bye (On an air of navaja) (Paperback)

Customer Review

"On an air of navaja" is the sixth (and penultimate) novel by Raymond Chandler.
Through a complex plot that gradually, we find all the author's universe slicked gigolos, cops tired, arrogant billionaires, the mobsters running, creatures fatal beauty ... and Marlowe!
A knight of modern times, that Philip Marlowe: attractive (for those who like big beefy face weathered), loosely centered on the bottle, not loving or easy money nor Richards, wearing a wry look amused on everything and everyone (including himself), with a sense of bitter distributed in all circumstances (especially when just beaten), scrupulously honest - with himself as with others ...
Just for Marlowe, "On an air of navaja" would be worth it. Added to the style, all at once extraordinarily chiseled and efficient, humor, distanced fiercely, and a very sensitive and profound reflection on friendship.
Tip: read the Chandler in order of release - these are all masterpieces (except "Charades for collapsed", the latest, written when the author was already very ill).
And it is so nice to see Marlowe evolve imperceptibly change from book to book ...
