Again briefly to my use of the Rollei:
I am gliding and would therefore like to record my flights, even from awkward angles, on video. These include mainly offs and landings, aerobatic shots and also Outlandings in overland flights (so if you somewhere in the "Pampa" on a farm down must).
For this purpose I need a remote-controlled camera can be mounted to be as diverse as possible (and safe!) The Video quality should also be acceptable, but I expect this from such a small mini camera no wonder! --- Delivery / accessories ---
The scope of supply of the Rollei is ever "WOW" - it is at first glance just about everything here you need or can use times. Of course you have to distinguish whether one is buying the "Outdoor Edition" or "Motorbike Edition". In the latter example, a suction cup mount and handlebar mount are, then it is missing but as the head mount and several other mounting options.
But what always will be there, for example, are the spare battery (so-called. "Backpack"), the clip-on display, the remote control Various sleeves and pockets and an 8 GB MicroSD card.
I think that's really cool, you have so really from the beginning everything you need to get started right in principle, even a memory card is! While 8GB is now not the last word, but to start, it is sufficient loose and I find it great principle, that so the accessory is really complete! - The Rollei 5S is so "out of the box" ready for use immediately!
Brief comparison to GoPro: the remote control was there that you have to pay extra but expensive (price difference to a GoPro without FB 70, - price of FB: whopping 100, -) but that was about it. No spare battery, no display, no additional brackets like suction cup, handlebar or head mounts. There are not even caps for the lens case and of course like no memory card or. With the GoPro so you can once do nothing and requires mandatory additional accessories which must be purchased separately. Who is not familiar here, so is right in front of the first issue!
--- Furniture and Home ---
Here's another plus for the Rollei - she worked directly! The GoPro had failed right at this point and was not operational until after a firmware update from the manufacturer's website. Of course you had to advance until GoPro register an update to erhalten..naja ..
The operation and setting up the camera using the included display (obviously) much more pleasant than the GoPro where there is only one mini LCD display. The menu is kept simple and uncluttered. Again, scores the Rollei before GoPro where the menu was clear, at best, as "hakelig" and also still repeatedly put a kind of "life of its own" to the day.
The remote control of the Rollei works great, the range is good and enough for my purposes from perfect. No matter where I mount on the aircraft, more than 8m distance it does not have to be bridged. The Extra button for photos is handy so you can even shoot still photos during video recording - very cool.
When GoPro the supplied FB had not the way to work - must have been a manufacturing defect. Here I must, however, also be a point on the GoPro, because the fact that the FB has a small LCD screen, you can always receive the information directly to the camera via the current recording. The lack a little in the Rollei FB because if the camera button actually takes after pressing the "Record", sees (or hears) is only on the camera itself. However I but this example is mounted on the tail of my Airman, so I have no view of the camera and then must simply hope that the camera has received the signal of the FB.
The manual of Rollei's OK - it's definitely more helpful than the manual of GoPro but not perfect. It lacks, for example, a brief explanation of all the accessories. How do I use which holders properly and what I would consider under certain circumstances. Here I would have liked some more information than "Not knower".
In the GoPro course eliminates any explanation as simply no accessories included with ... the actual information of the GoPro instructions but had found instead on a napkin place ...
--- Quality of the recordings ---
As I have already mentioned, my pure image quality is not so 110% pure essential. At this point I should also mention that I've made with either of the two cameras also actual aerial photographs. I filmed a little inside and outside and in various lighting conditions - the "real" shots will then follow until the summer. What has struck me the direct comparison as "mortal": Yes, the GoPro provides a slightly better image quality. You really notice it but only at 1080p and correspondingly fast pans and the like. Here you realize the higher recording rate of GoPro opposite the Rollei. The GoPro creates here (ie at 1080p) 60fps while the Rollei "only" 25 fps provides. If, however, to 720p so you can also get in touch with the Rollei 50fps.
As I mentioned earlier, I ask of such a small camera no "miracle" - a sound recording 720p with 50fps is enough for really every Aerial View! - Point! If you want more or needs, the need to halt recourse to more professional equipment, and should not buy cheap Rollei and afterwards complain that the world is so unfair!
--- Remote Control / Connectivity ---
Since the presence of a remote control has represented for me a main focus on the purchase, I would again like to explain the key differences between the Rollei and GoPro here.
The GoPro (as purchased from me Black Edition) has built-in WiFi. The FB the GoPro is also based on the WiFi technology with all the strengths and weaknesses.
The Rollei has a "normal" remote control and no wifi - this system has its strengths and weaknesses.
What are these strengths and weaknesses? Well, firstly you can naturally transmitted to the WiFi the GoPro a whole Mange data. For example it is possible to remotely control the GoPro via mobile app or even to transfer the image from the camera to your smartphone. About WiFi then the FB of GoPro able to all camera and recording information to transfer and display on the LCD display. Of course, all sounds great, but has one major drawback: The energy demand!
To receive via WiFi from the FB commands, this must be at the GoPro logically permanently active. This means that the pure standby time of GoPro is a maximum of about 3 hours (without a recording, mind you) then the WiFi chip has "sucked" the battery. That was the main reason why I have the GoPro returned. With such a low stand-by time I just can not do anything with my application profile!
The Rollei solves all about "simple" wireless technology. The Rollei can be controlled though not via smartphone or send extensive status information, they do not "burn" it but also so much energy in stand-by.
Rollei is the pure standby time of 100 hours (!!) which are roughly 2500% more than the GoPro! And even if 100 hours is not exactly fit, even if it were only half, so the perseverance of the GoPro is compared so ridiculous that it is no longer even worth mentioning.
The Rollei can provide a "real" stand-by compared to GoPro. The camera turns off and then actually can be retrieved in the operating mode either via a push button or via the FB again.
That was exactly what I was looking. So I can see the camera in the morning on the plane mount, fly off and spread over the whole day now and then record a video and when I'm in the evening at the airport again, the camera still may have enough energy to the landing hold still. Theoretically, I need it then not even overnight to recharge but could the same game the next day perform again (of course depending on the actual recording time).
--- Summary ---
In direct comparison, the Bullet is the better camera for me 5s. She does not quite reach the GoPro but to approach the many mistakes of GoPro make this (single) advantage in my eyes outweighed by the recording quality. What good is the best camera in the world, if it is not suitable because of their concept for my application?
Personally, I find also equipping the Rollei absolutely outstanding and I think it's just great that Rollei's really gone so far and even settled a memory card has to make the product really right "out of the box" ready to use! Especially for people who are not knowledgeable about the whole matter ActionCam so this is just perfect!
When GoPro is not even strictly necessary (and acceptable by the manufacturing ago) equipment as a protective cap for the lens or even a carrying case here. Here really everything has to be purchased separately, thus driving the price of a ready camera enormously in height. For this, the technical shortcomings come so that the GoPro even with good will "out of the box" without a firmware update is not receptive! For me at the high product price is an absolute no-go!

The helmet mount or suction cups and memory card I let time simply left out, but you can also again around 50, - if you want to start. Otherwise you would just need:

Add to that the 350, - for the GoPro to get himself on lap 500, - compared to the 170, - to 200, - (depending on availability) that you would for a Rollei 5S invest.
Now if people say so, the GoPro makes better videos these have right of course - this advantage in video quality but costs almost three times !! That should not forget to mention you!
Conclusion
Anyone looking for a "simple" and especially easy Action Cam, while also not want to spend too much money, which is well served in my eyes with the Rollei Bullet 5S. The camera works great, has everything the "Normalo heart" desires and really offers a lot of value for your money.
As I said, I have a GoPro Hero 3 obsessed and was so unhappy with the function of the quality and the use of the camera in general, that I have returned again directly. A 350, - Product, which once did not work out of the box - That is surely a (bad) joke be ??
Thus I came to the Rollei and this camera gives me exactly what I expect from a (beginner) ActionCam.
I would recommend it to anyone!
