Customer Review

@ Sony: I'll change up the rating by 1 to 2 star where the problems via firmware update remediable defects, childhood diseases and bred totally unnecessary patronizing (Coronation: PAL / NTSC Selection "requires" a format the SD card !!!) have been fixed.

A list of BUGS (English), and in this price range actually self-evident but missing features, and some desires can be found here: (Please mark line (eg with 3 times-click) and paste it into address bar)

I can only all customer rates, though fair and reasonable, but in particular due to some real "Klopper" (eg forced to NTSC Selection with subsequent forced to reformat the SD card only for hiring 60 / 120fps, and: Lockdown while Video has ceased to exist in the M3) not too euphoric to evaluate, if necessary also the ratings after reading this list and (possibly complete assessment, include some places a few errors which may very well) to reconsider exactly to motivate Sony the described deficiencies and / actually / rework.

+ + + + + Video image stabilization in normal or bright light: if one is used, a video camera as wobble-free, it just goes to freely carry hand, will see the results (almost) as good as if you had used a tripod. Smooth stabilization even at full zoom, "tripod" look is but then of course no longer possible.

- - Video image stabilization in low light: So-so, especially at dusk pans are no longer Ruckelfrei hinzubekommen. (Tested at a lantern procession)

- - Video auto focus takes in the dark for a long time or make it not at all (not even after more than 10 sec.) To face sharp. I stopped the video, once the shutter button depressed, while the camera has successfully focused and then it has this focus level maintained in Video mode, or there refocused. (Object were people with torches and LED-illuminated musical instruments)

- - The stereo microphones are not the front, but unfortunately the top of the camera, keep in one-handed, if when you hold the camera with thumb up, the Wahrscheinlicheit is very high, that covers the right microphone

- - Completely incomprehensible why the autofocus assist light is not white LED. This would indeed be to share as a video light. Due to the high Lichtempflindlichkeit that would be 100x more practical than it is the case of smartphones and would cost little more (slightly stronger LED + heat dissipation for the LED). Many camcorders the middle and upper classes have an automatically connecting-in the dark LED.

- - You can not use an external microphone. Bluetooth could be a solution, but the camera can not.

- - The ND filter (neutral density filter) can not be set to "Auto" in video mode. To avoid constant flickering over 1-2 frames have a large hysteresis plus any time delay can be worked. So you have to a) decide and stop b) video and switch in the Quick menu.

- - Recordings do not play slow. Perhaps that will come with an update, you could combine with the Zurückspulknopf

- - - Although it is not a 4K video recording (was before buying well known, nevertheless: even GoPros can long it would have been appropriate that this cam that also can Although undoubtedly a Full HD video the RX100! is likely to be superior to any GoPro 4K video, too, is clear to me.)

- - - - The zoom button has only Zomen or not zooming. In almost any low-cost camcorder, it is common that you can vary the zoom speed depending on the deflection. All the same, while a video drives the zoom with only about 1/5 the normal speed.

- - - - - There is no "time shift" function for video, that is unfortunately not possible that the first, for example, 3 seconds before pressing the recording button are also saved.. In this price range I would have thought it of course! (Even if the more quickly sucked empty the scarce battery)
It is hoped that such a thing can be retrofitted via App!

- - - - - It does not seem to be possible during video recording to take pictures. Because I know that the RX100M1 can, think (hope) I know that I have just set something wrong. I would have expected that the M3 also executes some images in a FIFO (in the M1 it will take about 5-10 seconds, until you can do another photos during video recording, but so far it does so no photos during the video. The answer to my question in the support forum (the one stupid enough, can as creators not answer) that I just had to press the shutter button while recording video, seems like a joke before I tried the possible in all modes. It happens simply nothing. )
As in the User Questions & Answers jemadn else confirmed that the bill may not be provided, I very much hope that Sony still supply those with an update. If it does not work at 100fps and 50Mbps or take two minutes would specihern a photo, you have it surely is not equal in all video modes disable. The RX100M1 can (but licensed to about 10 sec. To store the image), as I expect, of course at the RX100M3 that they also * and * more quickly can it, or some photos in RAM buffers (SD card's Save with video + photos busy)!

- - - - - Switching from PAL to NTSC (or vice versa), the camera requires a reboot and also indicates that the SD card needs to be formatted when changing !!! What a nonsense! Why offend a Sony with such an utter nonsense ??
The correct way would be that in the list of video formats both all PAL and all NTSC modes are listed in parallel (ideally with PAL or NTSC behind or each in a separate sub-branch) In particular, to slow motion when recording with 120fps times just to be able to adjust that would have been required!
That being said, there is nothing, absolutely nothing against the fact that the camera in both NTSC and PAL * offers all * frame rates in the menu, even if the HDMI output / the LCD driver in the "wrong" mode takes place. (Top one could possibly be executed have when playing again)
If you --- as usual in Europe --- Video in PAL receives, but every now want to get the maximum of slow motion, you have a second, NTSC "formatted" (* LOL *) SD card while having and back and forth -stöpseln. Long live the bullshit! NOT! :-(!

- - - - - There is no short-term slow motion function, either with or without pre-recording. Even the former mid-range Sony HDR-CX116 (camcorder) can 3 real seconds hold with 4X (then given 12 seconds playing time in slow motion) and this may even for 3 seconds, the play is pressing the recording button already * before * have. A really cool feature !!! That here something was going to retrofit my app, I expect, of course (I'm on the other hand but not sure, for example, must be enough RAM available), think it is very sad that this is not enabled by default here (As I said, we are talking about a camera with EIA 849, - EUR !!!)

- - In order to use more than 50 fps set has the video codec (the menu a bit confusing called file format) AVCHD on XAVC-S to be changed, then the list will change under the somewhat awkwardly with "Aufnahmeinstellg." (Video format or video resolution would be more appropriate) signified menu item on entries, all of which work with 50 Mbps, up to 100fps (goes only in 720p)
On top of these two logically related menu items are unnecessarily divided into 2 pages. (Bottom of page 1 + above on page 2.) For example, just behind the menu item "SteadyShot" would have been swift, one would have all relevant for the video settings under quite get on a page! Since Sony could have put more effort really, it acts carelessly and badly thought then clapped, along the lines of the "must go somewhere ..." (IMHO belongs anyway divided into 2 menu items, but the AVCHD and XAVC-S modes in a common list!)

- - - During video recording, the remaining recording time is displayed NOT. (To avoid confusion, however, would have here on the one hand, the artificially limited maximum duration of the current sequence and in addition all the free space on the SD card are displayed. Or you show only the maximum duration of the current sequence, being here displayed a reduced duration if the SD card for the maximum per sequence is no longer sufficient)

- - - - - If you have a photo snapped and immediately after (. Within less than 0.6 sec) expresses the Video Record button, then in all seriousness "Operation Writing to memory is not possible.." Will appear but a message You feel ridiculed real! This thing is not a school project of computer science course where something might be acceptable ...
That was the straw that brought the barrel almost to overflowing and me almost from 3 to 2 stars would have to devalue. This goes in this class probably not at all! A FIFO buffering that everything has not been flushed first to the SD card transparently done in the background and thus prevents the camera operation is unnecessarily delayed, I think in this camera class for absolutely self-evident. (Know the of my Nikon D40 so, even if the video can not). This stage I as a fat BUG that!

- - - - - The above bug contains an even worse bonus Bug: In burst shooting, you have to wait and see until the entire image series has landed on the SD card, so long appears each time you attempt to record a video repeatedly the message "Writing to memory. Operation is not possible." These are at a Sandisk Class 10 with 40 MB / s (read) approx. 1 second per image, possibly a little more.
If you have the entire buffer is filled with photos, Waiting would have more than 60 sec. First meaningless announced.

Note:
* THAT * Camera this FIFO buffering ACTUALLY mastered, you realize if you do continuous shooting: approximately 80 images (ideally with enough light and AF-S or AF-M, so that it goes fast) reduces the modem speed rapidly, since the internal FIFO is full, but it does come no message that you can not keep shooting!

o First neutral, if applicable but 5 minus points as long as the bug is: at Sony.net in the forum I've read that in detected faces always also undesirably the Soft Skin effect in the video mode is enabled (whatever the make, probably a Blur , the pimples, but also fine structures wegmatscht)

PHOTOS:
=====

+ + + + + The superior automatic works well and quickly

+ + + + + The camera can output 4K stills via HDMI to 4K TVs

+ - Panorama function: very fast, but only about 180 °. Too much inclination (presumably) remains a part of the panorama gray. The resolution I have to even look at, but I'm afraid it will not be the full image height (in pixels).

- - The camera has only contrast autofocus, the A5000 and A6000 have 176 phase detection focus areas in the sensor chip, ie it would have been possible here also (perhaps there in the RX100M4 ...)

- - It lacks an AF-L (AF Lock) button

EDIT (2014-10-18, 16:56):
- - In "continuous fire" the camera for a device of this class and the 2014 is relatively slow. It creates only about 5-6 frames / sec in mode AF-S focus even it new! She does only in mode AF-C and then drops to 2-3 frames / sec.

EDIT / correction: HDR is available, but only auto-HDR, forced-HDR will not do.

- - In the AF-S mode is not per image refocused at sequential shots, but only on the first. I knew so not (come from the Nikon D40). For new Focus per image Einstelleung AF-C is necessary.

- - - - - There are no pre-shot function / "Timeshift" function for pictures (such as at the Nikon1)

EDIT 2014-10-19: error on my part away: fuzzy hair in Aperture Priority apparently came about only because of minimal movement and insufficient light. So there is also in the mode A and Aperture 1.8 (the cam is also in auto mode to Aperture 1,8..2,0) quite sharply imaged hair.

- - - - With continuous autofocus (AF-C, however, is inactive in certain modes, but with Aperture or shutter priority it is active), the autofocus is pumping at slightly pressed-seekers like crazy and back down to occasional pauses and forth, it displays green for sharp, but you can see on the LCD, as always clearly reciprocated past the focal point. I think this is a fheler and can not tell me what happens when you trigger: the actual focal point is then approached or is there exposed, where the focus was just by chance?
This strange behavior I know of no other compact camera. I would expect that the camera remains on a once detected focus unless it is re-focusing. All other compact cameras with continuous autofocus that have come into my hands to make it that way. And the RX100M3 can do that, because in video mode it does exactly that. (If a bit slower, but at least without object tracking is certainly useful for the Video mode)

BATTERY AND CONTROL, FEATURES:
====================

+ + + + + The LCD has the ability to automatically adapt to the ambient brightness its backlight. I have the first views in a camera, but makes sense and saves in the dark a little energy. Even televisions have rarely (it should the EU there actually stipulate)

+ + + + Although the OLED viewfinder needs * more * power than the LCD, you can save him some energy by turning it firmly (it is in any case only be switched on when it is taken off, so that one this setting entirely can be left permanently) because it turns off immediately if you are not by looks!
Unfortunately, Sony is not so clever if you do not clean looks to put the camera in a sleep mode (see energy measurements below), consumption falls by about 2.2 watts to about 1 watt to about 1.2W.
(About power consumption on the battery, the figures shown here are 80% of what I have measured the power supply. When measured against the PSU yes flows nor its power dissipation with a.)

+ + + + + You can power the camera as needed without any problems with an external power supply and use as normal. However, the camera is picky: despite the same or less energy during operation as for charging the battery (and turns off charging the battery when you turn on), they complained that the supplied Sony AC adapter is not suitable for the power supply.
Works fine but has the charger a Samsung Android smartphones with me. With an extra-strong power supply from RS, which is intended for the Raspberry Pie B +, Camera erfolgos trying to connect via USB.
(According to Intel Power Supply standard have USB D + and USB D- be connected when the power supply will be identified as high-current supplier. Presumably this is missing from the Sony AC adapter and probably this is the Samsung PSU the case and probably has the RS PSU as the usual Apple resistors in it, let the Cam then think it would be now on the PC)

- There is no GPS module. Whether the camera can use GPS data from a connected phone, I have to find out. (Advertised it is not, therefore, does not go probably, but would be upgraded via update)

- The camera tilts when fully extended lens (default state after power) already almost on the front edge forward to, the rear part lifts slightly from the tabletop from. She comes on to the lens ring and only this prevents tipping. If you want so they stand without stand somewhere in order to self-portrait, you should always try to support the objective (eg with a box of tissues that would be feasible).

- - - - - The camera is really very uncertain and slippery in his hand, which made the same 3 reasons: it has a very smooth casing surface, it is relatively heavy and it is for holding in the hand absolutely unergonomic (angular like a carton) formed insbesonere because front right there is nothing even the slightest bit before (where a camera a bead to secure support belongs)
No other camera that I had in my hand holds up as bad as the RX100 variants (all 3). Even the cheapest (Canon PowerShot A495 44 offer years ago at Saturn) is much better in the hand.
Reason is the almost rectangular case without appreciably gerundetet edge and without bead front right. To those one must buy more (Sony AG-R2 grip attachment for DSC-RX100 / DSC RX100II / DSC RX100III 14.90, Sony Genuine Accessories), which is IMHO an absolute obligation accessory. (Value approx 1 [rubber, plastic, 4 screws, double-sided Klebedand], Sony would have the camera can attach easily!)
But even with this Aufklebe- "handle" is not yet adheres perfectly in the hand, because the bead unfortunately only about 2/3 the lower covers, they should have enough for optimum grip actually all the way up.
This toad would certainly virtually any, the Camera will buy solely on the basis of other technical characteristics, swallow especially the high light sensitivity in this compactness. But Sony should maybe make surveys what the customer would like to see improved! (Unfortunately, the issues are often so stupid inning in such Umragen that you can be almost certain that, unfortunately, nothing useful comes out)

- - - - - The name of the menu item for the display information was apparently translated by a 7-day school interns. It's called "DISP", presumably from the English "display Keying", "Key DISP" or similar For a global company like Sony IMHO Upper embarrassing.

- - - - - The water level can only be show on the LCD when * all * other elements are hidden. Looks to me very strongly from the bow to. (The check mark (not for other tick be forced off, then you might think it was intended in the event that Sony a -. Should want to force you not to place zuzumüllen Nails with status indicators) - senselessly

- - - - - The OLED pull-seekers actually requires more energy than the large LCD (!!!!!) anyone who hoped to be able to lean battery life thus might extend

- - - - - The battery life is not like usual with Sony's camcorders, in remaining minutes (course load Depending varying), but only as doofes, very little meaningful Bildchen displayed. On top of that the leap from being "yet about 1/3" up to "Low Battery" unexpectedly suddenly. One thinks too long, you would have a relatively large amount of juice!

- - - - The battery is extremely scarce dimensioned with 3.9 Wh. If you come from a DSLR without Live View and it was lived there until weeks to get along day on a single charge, you should always have at least 2 full supplementary battery case. (And get away with it long not applicable). In particular, due to the great video function, a larger battery would have been desirable. The space that the OLED viewfinder would occupy been invested IMHO meaningful for a thicker battery.

- - - - - The energy-saving start time as it was called very creative, can not make less than 1 minute and much worse: it is not first the display and a little later the lens is retracted, but that will simultaneously take place.

- - - - - It was GIGANTIC Energieparpotential away, while it would be more than necessary, given the meager battery to fully exploit all possibilities. for example, the camera could be after a few seconds (5-10) in a sleep mode of date (from display, waking by keypress / release). The energy consumption would be (almost) as small as if it were completely out! My Nikon D40, for example, behaves like this (they can be leave on for weeks!)
Only would the RX100 for example 1-2 minutes, of course, the lens retract.

- - - - - If you during that appears after shooting photos (if control View active) presses the Fn button appears instead of the quick menu undesirable at the moment menu to send the picture via WLAN, all as if you were just in a normal image playback mode

Sony: I'd want in the next firmware that you can sleep-onset and duration separately until the lens retracting a) and b) much finer, gröbstenfalls can set in 10-second increments.

RATHER incidental:
=================

- - The shutter release button is selected by dial Video mode without function (neither he starts recording a video still he takes pictures during a video). Annoying, because the separate video button is advised but clearly too small and also not on top of the housing, but the rear. (One wobbles when operating or holding the camera uncertain so as not to jiggle) Absolutely incomprehensible why one can not use the shutter button to start recording in video mode. Hopefully Sony eliminates this error in an update yet. (No doubt that this is a mistake!)

- When you turn on the PLAY button the camera, then again PLAY pressed, the lens extends (Expected function would be: camera turns off again). But you can switch off the on / off switch.

+ - The mode dial also affects the video mode (Video button). This can be good if you have thought me or annoying if you did not want the mode. If you set the dial to Video, 4 modes are available for selection.

- The flash does not pop out automatically and the lever is relatively sluggish

- You can not zoom into a video during playback. (Self-year-old low-end Android phones can do it!)

- The preview stills have a camera class rudimentary reasonable quality. Possibly is the standard for video containers no higher image quality preview ago, but even then the camera could just quickly decode the first frame. So it looks unfortunately like hochgezoomte 160x90 pixels. I expect 2014 Only in the class under 100th

- When the camera is charged at the mains adapter supplied, they can be turned on and use (that's good), but a sign it is almost full-frame appears that the power supply would not support the USB power and you can not use the camera is BAD. And also wrong.
Since the energy consumption at the outlet here of constant 3.2 watts (battery charging) is changed to varying 2.3 to 2,9W (for these measurements LCD and OLED take almost nothing, with the delivery of intelligent automatic but you can ca saving). 0.2 to 0.4W, I think the camera is quite operated by power supply, but unfortunately battery charging is stopped.

Energy measurements
(All "from socket", with Reichelt KD-302, c't test winner 0.1W resolution, also at precise switching power supplies), setting the RX100M3 on Aperture Priority (Intelligent Auto 0,2..0,4W would need more)

1.5W: camera, LCD and viewfinder (a sleep mode would at 0,0W, a pity that Sony does not use it!)
2.4W: camera, LCD on, full brightness (LCD is in operation at Netzeil with maximal brightness)
2.7W: camera, OLED viewfinder to

That means you can save 1.2W (consumption of the OLED viewfinder) when setting that does not switch to LCD w
