Technoline BC 700 Battery Charger black (Accessories)

Customer Review

Updated on 01.08.2015:
As a professional charger, I recommend the Basetech BTL4 for 19.99 euros. This has all the features of the BC700, but all errors of BC700 / BC1000 were eradicated from firmware v2.1. A backlight is available. There is also an internal resistance measurement (Quick test), unique in the price range. Supports capacity to 9999 mAh, the BC700 / BC1000 only to 3700 mAh.

1. Foreword:
Very many buyers seem to be so impressed by the clear LCD display that assume this device should work infallibly, which unfortunately is not the case.

So it happens that many a buyer proudly published a BC700 / BC1000 were charging capacity of 3230mAh with a 2850mAh battery possible. Here is the link to this evaluation:

The real capacity you get against it only after a complete discharge displays, stupid only that the BC700 / 1000 then automatically load again starts (which in itself is not bad), and, unfortunately, the real capacity to "0" sets (Discharge mode) , Perhaps this is so wanted because after charging one gets due to overloading often displayed any great fantasy figures, it would be so many Anweder immensely in view of these large numbers.

Another buyer defends the false indication on the grounds that one should be happy but if you buy, for example, 200g sausage from the butcher and notes at home that there are 300g sausage. The comparison is, of course. Better comparison would be to buy 200g sausage, the balance at the butcher shows however 300g instead of 200g and so you pay more, just because the balance is not functioning properly. Here is the link to this buyer's Response:

I also recommend the other 1-star and 2-star reviews read.

Difference between BC700 and BC1000 is only that which can load a maximum of 700mA with and the other with 1000 mA.

Following review by the TOP1000 reviewer for "successor" AccuPower IQ-328 also confirmed that the display of mAh Technoline BC700 / 1000 devices is unreliable:

2. test procedure:
I tested four new GP ReCyko + AAA battery with 800mAh. Batteries fully charged (200mA), then unloaded (100mA). Capacity for unloading was displayed with approximately 830mAh (just can not say that because of the BC700 / BC1000 display regrettably back to "0" sets after unloading, and the mAh display after charging is unfortunately just as unreliable as the switch-off ). 830mAh are a realistic value for a new 800mAh battery. When Panasonic Eneloop (4th generation) with 2000mAh appear during unloading for example, about 2060mAh (if you are lucky enough to be seen this ad before the automatic charging process starts). So Batteries ReCyko + themselves are top. Batteries are new as I said.

After unloading resumed automatically charging with 200mA, with the measured real capacity was measured during the unloading has been reset to 0, there is no way to display the capacity.
Battery 1 and 2: by charging again about 830mAh displayed.
Battery 3: charging was terminated at display of 970mAh! That would be a 1000mAh battery!
Battery 4: was ever charged with 200mA and charged with displaying 1280mAh I then pulled the plug!

Reliable charger is not exactly that Delta-U charging detection does not always here, at least not the smallest charging current of 200mA. Whether this AAA battery with 500mA 700mA or even can load to the battery without long-term damage? GP itself recommends the batteries to charge for 16 hours with only 80mA.

It may be that this other chargers is also so you can see it, not only because of lack of mAh display, but then you should probably use another reliable shutdown? I'll BC700 / BC1000 back again if I have to finish the loading process itself by pulling plug, then I may as well take a simple 3 Euro charger.

3. Alternatives:
Chargers with detailed LCD display:
- "Battery coach AV4m" costs € 49.99 free shipping if you tried the search engine. It also has a detailed and reliable test reports according to LCD. It has a 3X mechanical switch, which allows you to select the charging current. (Also further improved models AV4m + / AV4ms)
- MAHA / Powerex "MH-C9000" Free Shipping also has a detailed LCD display for 40. Manufacturer Maha Energy Corporation (USA). The quality is much much valent as the BC700 / BC1000, also in terms of buttons, the BC700 / BC1000 all keys move when you press one. From the user "Blade", there is a review of the "MH-C9000" in "Flashlight Forum" (these words should be enough to find it through a search engine). The discharge function to measure the real capacity works beautifully, as opposed to BC700 / BC1000 where this will not be saved and overwritten and therefore is useless.

Chargers without detailed LCD display, but still with single channel control:
- "SwissCharger P2" (19.99 euros). I have the predecessor "SwissCharger P1", and there is still nothing negative I noticed.
- "GP Power Bank H500"
- "Sanyo MQR06"

4. Addendum:
Have now with 500mA charging current / 250mA discharge retested before the device goes back. Inserted battery, turned, put fashion on test charging current to 500 mA. This time, the BC700 / BC1000 has switched off the charge mode, but have only been about as 960mAh displayed even though the batteries have only 800mAh (or 830mAh). The manufacturer could this 800mAh battery so as to sell 1000mAh battery, if he would take the BC700 / BC1000 as a reference charger)
Display on display for battery 1-4:
965mAh, 943mAh, 956mAh, 965mAh
3: 52h, 3: 47h, 3: 50h, 3: 52h
1.44V, 1.42V, 1.42V, 1.45V

The real / residual) capacity can be displayed only after complete unloading. The BC700 / BC1000 is so constructed lack the software side, that in the mode "Discharge", according to the discharging capacity is not saved. If you want to know the actual capacity, you have to constantly sit in front of the device and the display rigid (or install a surveillance camera). Once the discharge process is completed, the real capacity is reset to 0 mAh, then automatically starts the charging process and it appears how much capacity has already been loaded into the battery. However, this display is not appropriate, as already stated above.

Thus, the (remaining) is capacitance measurement of battery with the BC700 / BC1000 must be recorded.

As this charger has a few years on the market, it is incomprehensible why the manufacturer this error has still not been rectified firmware update, for example. So at least the devices currently sold would have at least had a working capacity measurement. For this behavior there is only one logical conclusion: the device is a flash in the pan without support. Without a company stands behind that. Practically a Noname device which is sold under various labels (Technoline, Voltcraft, Accu Power, etc). It was developed times, poorly tested (otherwise you would have noticed that the test mode for capacitance measurement is meaningless) and will be sold en masse, with all its faults.

5. Note to NiMH batteries:
One should assume more normal / conventional NiMH batteries are purchasing new batteries under any circumstances. This is as if you have old bulbs with 100 watts instead of a modern energy-saving lamp with 25 Watt buys (or 15W LED lamp). If possible, only buy batteries to those "ready to use" stands (eg Eneloop or ReCyko +). These are modern, introduced in 2005 with LSD battery technology (Low Self Discharge). Normal batteries will self-discharge very quickly. 1 day after full charge lose conventional NiMH batteries 10-20% of their capacity. Instead 2500mAh remain after one day only 2000mAh left. After further month to go again up to 50% of the capacity of self-lost, so only stay 1000mAh. And each additional month again lose up to 50%. Current batteries with LSD technology lose after 1 year storage only 10%, after 5 years only 30%. Can So five years are in the flashlight and then still work! The outdated NiMH batteries would after a few months there is absolutely no more energy, also destroy themselves when the time some are unused. They can then no longer be fully charged and keep barely. An LSD-battery can be 5 years lie in the drawer and then recharged to 100%, a conventional NiMH battery would have long since destroyed during this period and would no longer be useful.

Also, keep the modern batteries with LSD technology their long tension constant, one reason why these batteries as a digital camera or a flash can make twice as much photos before the unit with the "Battery empty" off. Just look at Wikipedia for "Eneloop".

In Wikipedia amenities to Delta-U and PVD:

Stress criterion: the underground method

Modern charge controllers monitor the voltage curve on the battery during charging. With increasing charging the differential resistance of the battery decreases, the voltage drop on him (electromotive force) increases, however. Upon reaching the full charge the supplied energy can not be chemically bound, the electromotive force does not rise further, the accumulator heats up. With any degree more, however, the differential resistance decreases further, the charging voltage decreases again (thus: U). The drop in voltage is clearly marked in NiCd batteries. When NiMH the drop in voltage for a maximum is observed only at sufficiently high charging currents.

Possible criteria for the termination of the loading are:

A. The decrease in the charging voltage after reaching the maximum (U) method. Are usual here in 1020 mV per cell.
B. reaching the maximum charge voltage (peak voltage detection). The charge controller is calculated for the first derivative of the voltage profile. Switching off occurs when the maximum charging voltage is reached with dV / dt = 0th In practice, however, a slight voltage drop can be established also for devices with Peak Voltage Detection. Accurate detection of a stagnant voltage is not possible because of minor natural voltage fluctuations, uncertainties contact and measuring inaccuracies.
