Since the last two firmware updates is that the BluRay player has problems with DLNA servers the problem, without changes to the server the player plays only MPEG2 files with other files, it displays the message "The file is corrupted or damaged."
Now I have found a workaround and made to run with my Buffalo LinkStation DUO the DNLA streaming, as follows:
With DLNA servers can be assigned to the connected devices a DNLA profile usually, normally detects the NAS device and know a profile. The Buffalo LinkStation recognize the device as a "Sony BluRay Player", responding to the S
490 but does not seem clear. If you change the profile manually on "Generic Media Player" (DLNA 1.5) runs mkv, xvid, etc. suddenly. :)
In Buffalo LinkStation rearranging goes as follows:
Under the address: [...] can be of the config page of Twonky DLNA Server on the LinkStation is running call, then click on the wrench, then in Advanced Setup - Select Media Receiver. There should be under the IP of the S490 "Sony BluRay Player" on the "Generic Media Player" amended accordingly and click "Save Changes" above. That's it, now he was back stream (except for DivX files, because Sony wanted to save license fees, with a FourCC tool let this change to xvid without transcoding and walk). The service from Sony was not helpful in the problem with DNLA.
I also own the previous model BDP-S480 and this plays with current firmware everything reliably without changing the NAS from.
Conclusion:
If the own DLNA server can be switched as the Buffalo LinkStation, the device is recommended, you have to stop fumbling a little something.
+ Navigation is quite useful
+ A big plus is the LOVEFiLM app on the device, streaming goes perfectly and the quality is surprisingly good (with VDSL 50000);)
+ Noise is low a buzzing noise from the power supply, as some other reviews report is not available for my device.
+ Price / Performance I find also good
+ Electricity consumption rather low
- Turned closets DLNA compatibility, but releasably with diverter on NAS.
- More interesting for some: the device is provided with Cinavia
