And now my installation attempts from the outset:
The DELOCK Adapter USB 2.0 Soundbox 7.1 came with USB cable and a CD with drivers from 2011 (creation date June 2011, delivery date in March 2013). Therefore I took the Soundbox once on a laptop under Windows8 as "Plug and Play device" in operation - so without using the installation CD. Windows8 automatically invited to Software and connected me to the Soundbox 5.1 sound system was the music right away again.
But oh dear, the two rear speakers gave no sound.
I searched the CD, perhaps to get some hints which. But on the CD there are no evidence and no readme file on the delivered equipment. At the top level directories are located on various topics. I went into the folder "sound" that contains without notice 2 entries that each contain only one setup.exe file. As referenced in the instructions to the directory "Sound / Cmedia6206" I was looking for the name "Cmedia6206" in Getting Internet and found one hand images of competitors products of DELOCK Adapter USB 2.0 Soundbox 7.1 with almost identical appearance, anderereseites Notes on the chip CM6206, the most in all of these devices and thus also in the DELOCK Adapter USB 2.0 Soundbox 7.1 installed. For this chip, I also found new drivers, among others, for Windows8 (from 23.11.2012 under the name "CM6206-LX driver for Windows 8" after some searching on the home page of cmedia.com. If you enter the full name, find search engines such as Google or Yahoo this driver version also).
Since I had read of problems with the drivers on the supplied CD and wanted to be prepared for re-installation, I tested once the Windows8 driver from Microsoft and found the following setting under
- Control Panel
- Hardware & Sound
- Sound
- Play in the tab I chose this for me new device
- "Speaker USB Sound Device"
- With the right mouse button I opened the context menu and chose there
- Configure speaker
The default setting is stereo there. I chose among the approximately 5 different settings between stereo and 7.1 setting
- "5.1 Surround"
and complemented the other settings on the following pages of the Microsoft-dialogue.
After finishing the dialogue all 5 speakers of the 5.1 system ran perfectly and I was once with the cheap DELOCK Adapter USB 2.0 Soundbox 7.1 satisfied.
But then I realized that the speaker jack was not working.
I installed therefore a realization that downloaded from the internet CM6206-Windows8 driver. That went smoothly. (My virus scanner I did not have to turn off, as in a previous review required)
Now working the speaker jack, but again only 2 speakers. But the settings of the driver could be "Show hidden icons" now in the taskbar, see and double-click to get a menu, where you have to change for a 5.1 system only once from 2 to 6 speakers. (With 4 speakers operate only the 4 side of 5 speakers) From this moment on was the 5.1 speaker system fully operational and by the many options of the driver you can with little idea of trial and error in the easily understandable graphical interface the sound with just a few clicks optimize - or individually adjusted with more knowledge each speaker, the band etc.. That in a recession in 2011 criticized "lacks graphical console" does not apply to the drivers used by me. The graphically supported setting convinced me.
After installing the optimum driver I am excited about the possibilities of the sound box. I had no 5.1 system and can therefore do no quality comparisons. But my needs are fully met.
To criticize is that on the CD Soundbox is present user manual (for some other device that is the case), and in 2013 no drivers to Windows8 and no indication of how to find the latest driver (The driver on the homepage of deloc Although is displayed with the date of 28.03.2013, but when you open the RAR file, has the installation file cm6206.exe dated 26.11.2009. Especially inspiring confidence is not, which is why I do not run this installation file did.)
The microphone and the line-in input, I have not tested the way that I used for a different USB soundcard.
