Useful editing program

Corel VideoStudio Pro X6 (DVD-ROM)

Customer Review

For a few years I have been working with Corel VideoStudio 12 and have tried other editing programs, on my older computer: Acer, 1.4GHz, 2 cores, 1GB DDR2, 4GB ReadyBoost.

Here's my impression of Corel Video Studio X6:
The user interface is clearly laid out, some pop-up window, eg for tone control or color adjustment however seem "old-fashioned" to, look after Windows 95, have not changed since Corel VS 12. Who sets it value to be able to change many parameters as possible in detail, whether in the color correction or in the sound enhancement, which is better off with other video editing programs. For example, since MAGIX programs offer much more fine tuning options for picture and tone correction and the rendering. For the beginners in Corel VS is X6 not overwhelmed with color and tone control, if he wants to edit his clips and can be incorporated quickly.

Again, at least at my computer not work with HD clips possible, even with a simple preview bucking the clips.
Are clips that have been placed in a folder, inserted in a video track, then smart proxy files will automatically be made with which one faster and stutter (but ruckellos not) can work as with the original clip (with me most mov files ). This converting the clips in proxies but lasts for example for a clip of 20 seconds at my computer for about a minute. So if you have drawn three clips on a video track, then it will take much too long before you can continue to operate properly, a liquid cutting is impossible so. But it is possible that all the clips to convert together in proxy files, if they are in the folder. Then the computer can convert all the clips sequentially unhurriedly. For example, 30 MOV clips (Canon 550D), which mostly are with me for about 20 seconds, the conversion will take on my computer for about 30 minutes. I once let through work at night for a larger project my laptop, so the next morning all the clips were converted into proxies. The rendering of large projects in Full HD takes as corresponding long and blocked under certain circumstances for hours the computer.
Proxies in 720 x 405 are in terms of sharpness and color judgment just large enough smaller proxies act too mushy and leave no reasonable picture assessment to more.
Just cut together a few proxy clips, perhaps even edited the sound, all with transitions, then the clips run when previewing smoothly. If one has but has several tracks and has changed as color or speed of the clips or has applied any FX effects, then bucking the clips when previewing quite strong, my computer just can not cope with the amount of data. Even then not work properly if I resize the proxies to 640x360. A powerful computer as possible is necessary in any case.
Clips with 50 frames per second shows the preview of the way, only with 25 fps. After rendering a movie with 50 fps and ended up staying all 50 frames / sec. available.

A help function I have not found, which I find very annoying. There are also shortcuts, so keys or key combinations that can control the cutting process. The one must but find out for yourself and the key assignment is not as sophisticated as, for example, when cutting programs of Magix.
The icons of the effects are far too colorful and animated, which looks a bit cheesy and a bit annoying.
The background color of the surface does not seem to be changing, the slightly lighter gray Corel VS 12 I like better.

In the first video track all the clips are automatically joined, gaps are not possible. I find this very handy when, for example, Magix one has to constantly make sure that all the clips are assembled properly. Is it with the cut in Magix almost done and discovered somewhere still a gap, then it is very burdensome to close this gap, because you, if you're unlucky, must move up many traces carefully. While there are at Magix several ways to merge the clips, but you have always inconvenient to switch between the options.

For the processing of sound files only CVS is X6 very suitable, there is no equalizer, there is no conversion to MP3 files is possible (only wav, ogg Vobis, mp4, wma).
Auto Music Maker is really good, however, here you can customize different styles of music exactly to the relevant clip length, the piece of music is perfectly adapted to the length corresponding to the beginning and end. Action Music, Klasik, jazz, rock and pop, it offered various musical styles with variations. It is even possible to control individual instruments in the volume.

The surface at Corel is clear, the clips in the video tracks are not too colorful or are covered by any lines, symbols. The length of transitions between two clips will be displayed automatically when joining clips so I can synchronize all transitions quickly.
There are only 4 Languages: For example, comment, music, sounds or separate audio clips. That's not enough for me, 5 or 6 tracks should do the trick to work comfortably can. And there are only video or audio tracks and subtitle tracks, it can not be occupied with any video or sound clips.

My conclusion: Despite some weaknesses I like the program because its interface is clear and I, unlike other editing programs a quick "Workflow" reach here.
What I would hope would be a more detailed color processing (color edit separately in light, medium and dark area) and a slightly better sound processing (eg a simple equalizer).
I forgive only 3 to 4 stars, as other programs but are a bit more sophisticated.
