Delivery and packaging:
As usual AMAZON everything went from ordering process to delivery smoothly and fast. But thank you very much!
The unit was double wrapped with me. After the printer box open I was surprised angenenehm because not wrapped inside the printer as with other in a Plasticksack but was wrapped in a reusable fabric bag. Even the power adapter and the cables were packed in a textile bag provided with a zipper. Great Praise!
The printer was unpacked in minutes released from the transit bolts and erected.
The Photosmart makes a high quality and with its glossy black, sophisticated look. Unfortunately, this material-color combination is very sensitive to dust. However, this triftft to all devices that are manufactured in this style (eg Canon iP4700 ff)
Furnishings:
Setting up the printer is almost automatically. After the first time you turn the printer needs some time to initialize. I have not measured the time, but a few minutes (5-8) went guarantees. After that I was greeted by the small screen and demanded the insertion of the ink cartridges. This turned out to be without any problems. This was followed by the cartridge alignment and the first edition with the alignment test pattern.
Later in the facility has been set if the printer via WLAN to receive the data. This I have chosen. After a few seconds the printer found my FritzBox and after entering the WLAN key of the printer at the Fritz box was registered. Although my Fritz box is attached several rooms away, it dose not connect problems.
Setting up ePrint function takes the printer automatically after confirmation. It will be printed after a page of the generated e-mail address for ePrint's and other info's.
Once the hardware-based device was performed, the unit requires installation of the included driver software on the computer.
I work with MAC OS X Leopard on an iMac Sow. After inserting the driver CD and starting the installation, the printer was also found, however, the installation after about .1 / 4 of the course with an error message (The program terminated unexpectedly) canceled. Reboot, re-inserting the CD and also the copy of CD.Inhaltes on the computer and start over the desk repeatedly led to the error message. The installation on the Mac with the supplied CD-ROM so it was not possible.
About the HP side I have then downloaded the latest driver (approximately 167 MB) and the installation hereby executed. This then proceeded smoothly.
I do not know whether or not the termination of the installation from the CD or the contents of which occurred due to errors on the media or my iMac's. The latter, however, I do not think so, because the download installation worked. I'll send the HP disk and ask for exchange for one function to the CD or see if not maybe there is an error in the Inst. files for MAC OS.
The installation of the driver software on a PC running Windows XP on the CD, by the way worked without error.
The first print:
I have printed the first of Pages a normal text document. This letter was printed quickly and cleanly. I'm using perfectly ordinary, white inkjet paper. The text was not visible, coarse fringes etc. awoke the printer, let the mechanics short walk (about 5 sec.) And then was already the pressure off. From the pure print speed my extant iP4700er is slightly faster, but we'll talk here about a few seconds values. For me, this is totally negligible!
I then printed using the included HP Advanced Pohotopapier (10x15) two photos. The paper lies in a special tray of the printer and is fed by pressure allocation in the printer. The pressure was relatively quickly in a reasonable time and in comparison to other photo printers.
The print quality I find excellent. The colors were, of course, the pressure razor sharp and completely evenly. Obviously works here the collaboration between HP ink and HP papers immaculate. As it is with other types of paper, I can not judge.
Finally, I still have a normal printed page with text and graphics as a duplex. Again, the HP was relatively fast, needed for the duplex but longer because obviously between the pressure of the first and second sides of a break is inserted. I suspect this happens, allow the ink to dry on the first page. The term was without any complaints.
Scanning:
Scanning with the Photosmart is very simple. Either will be scanned using the feeder or the platen glass. Super folds also the duplex scanning from the feeder. This is set in the software at the Duplex hook (at least at the MAC, it is so), and the template is pulled and the first page scanned. The paper is then almost entirely been and retrieved through the entry and turned in mechanics. Scanning is quite fast (depending on the selected resolution, etc.). My test scan of an insurance policy with 150dpi as PDF was done within 40 seconds (incl. Insert, scan and save). For me, perfectly acceptable.
Even scan directly to memory cards is possible, so that the computer for scanning does not have to be tight turns. However, I have not tried this feature.
Copy:
The copying documents is as easy as scanning and running smoothly. Again, the speed is acceptable. I copied even 10 originals in the feeder. The mechanism is a little louder than my old Brother laser copier, but not unpleasant disturbing. The quality of the copies at the default resolution is absolutely fine.
Fax reception and transmission:
The sending and reception of faxes Come is a task that thrown in while everything is done automatically after successful establishment. Printouts are not objectionable accordingly the original and the sender station. Super is the function to spam faxes to suppress in a blacklist. Annoying faxes for things that the world does not need are so passé. All fax functions but I have not tried it yet.
Ease of use:
The device is relatively easy to operate after a short training period. The buttons are labeled in German and leave no questions unanswered. The paper handling is very easy (compared to the iP4700, where only a cover is removed and then the paper is inserted a little cumbersome, and the paper tray must be removed)

WIFI:
My printer is connected via Wi-Fi with the MAC and a PC. Once the device has connected, this is quite stable with me. However, the HP has the connection a few times lost. It took a long time for the printer to connect rebuilt (once I had the device off and on again). This is certainly the fact that my Fritz box is relatively far ernfernt. I have connected an existing repeater near and now the connection is no shortage. My iMac had been no problems with the Wi-Fi. I guess that the built-in Mac antennas are better than the HP and so the disturbances are explained. As I said, now the connection is stable.
Conclusion:
Anyone looking for a good all-rounder for home's or the small office, can be very satisfied with the HP. The printing costs are limited and the quality of the printouts is among the best. The handling is simple and the functions can hardly be desired.
But if you want to work with the device via WLAN must have a stable radio quality. If then the display would grow and HP revised the driver CD, the device would certainly 5 star.
