The smartphone is firmly in the plastic shell and is well protected on all sides. I had initially material concerns after reading the reviews of a similar product, whether described as "leather", but is not made of leather. The material of this case is described as "genuine leather with PU coating." According Lederzentrum.de it involves solid-colored (cowhide) split leather, whose surface is coated with polyurethane. The coating gives the (thin and therefore not very durable) skiver the necessary stability. So it's leather ... and so the bag smells. I am very happy at first. As long as what holds, I will probably remember ;-)
