I read it in just two days. I had some apprehension as a Christian committed before tackling the reading. But this book can be read by any believer or unbeliever. It is essential to understand how Christianity came to be rooted in antiquity, to grow and become the religion we know. Initially, lack of theological analysis bothered me a bit, but after all it is a history book and not theology. Reading the last three chapters seemed a bit much, as also were painful those contests of the time, around the meaning to be attributed to the existence of Jesus. The title of the book is what referred to throughout. The epilogue of the book is beautiful. Frédéric Lenoir seems to finally take a stand, and its position is that of someone very respectful of the original teachings of Christ.
A very recommendable book, which allowed me to discover how it took a few happy combination of circumstances (the emperor Constantine is one of them), so as to establish sustainable Christianity.
