Otherwise, it's just wonderful. Of course it is not a reflex camera, but in bright light makes excellent pictures. Even in low light, it is reflected wacker. The ISO speed can be set manually. The Auto ISO can to max. 400 limited, which can be quite useful to prevent too much noise.
Surprisingly good is the built-in flash. Firstly, it brings an amazingly high performance, on the other hand he lit even in the whole wide angle evenly. In addition, the automatic controls the power output really enjoyable, so images look very natural.
There are no manual controls (except ISO value). For the S8000 offers in addition to a motif, automatic different scene modes that can be activated in no time. In terms of use Nikon does a great job! Thoughtful, intuitive, fast through many direct hits by pressing a key. No better way to make a menu!
But the biggest advantage - and for me probably the most crucial point for my choice - is the speed. Exemplary in the class of compact Super Zoomer. The camera is practically ready to shoot the first image immediately after switching. The autofocus is lightning fast and fail. In low ambient light, he is supported by an auxiliary light. And after taking a picture, the camera is ready virtually no waiting time for the next picture.
A true revelation is the large display. At almost 1 million image pixels can be seen very good if the recordings have become something (in addition there are nice additional features such as a blink warning). Nevertheless, the monitor power is not at the expense of the battery. According to 210 with a battery possible - this figure is not truly over the top! Even in the test phase does not, in which I have, among other things flashed a lot, considered images on the display and edited the images even with the internal software.
The image processing in the camera can be quite impressive! There is the opportunity to brighten dark image areas and thereby achieve more drawing in the shadows (D-Lighting) and a general image enhancement (in three stages). If I nachbearbeite pictures, I do that though usually at the computer, but the results directly from the camera are astounding! In this way, the original image files are not overwritten. The camera stores copies of pictures from a copy in a new jpg file.
A gimmick that has it all, is the panorama function. The S8000 supports the photographer by displaying by a semi-transparent overlay of the previous image, how far you should let the images overlap. The PC software to stitch the images together, there is the camera for free now: The Panorama Maker 5 Pro. Easy to use, grandiose results!
The video function in HD to be proud of. While the optical zoom does not work while recording (the focal length remains as it was set before pressing the recording button is pressed), but there is always a 2x digital zoom available - without loss of quality.
About the picture quality per se, there are already many statements. I lack the direct comparison with comparable camera models, so I can only say that the image quality is very good. Not I can confirm that you absolutely must set the best image quality in order to obtain good images. At 14 Mpix with stronger compression (default setting), no difference is practically visible.
The zoom range (30-300 mm small picture format equivalent) me comes in handy. While there are now also Super Zoomer that offer significantly more wide-angle, but for the outstanding lens performance over the entire zoom range. And since I already find important a decent telephoto range for a snapshot camera as much particularly wide angle, which is of course ideal. Because the optical Image Stabilizer is particularly outstanding! Problems, the S8000, however, a little with CAs (which can be necessary but subsequently corrected).
She also mentioned that Stiftung Warentest Nikon has named the winner in the field of corporate responsibility for social and environmental corporate social responsibility (CSR).
