As for the sharpness of photos, I can only associate myself with the previous reviews that is truly impeccable. No distortion practically no CA's.
Very good I think also the delivery with Case, the compact sun visor and the automatic 3-year warranty.
Why I have deducted two points:
1. Minus point:
In direct comparison with the SONY SEL 50f1.8 to significant disadvantages in low light yield.
With the 50-SONY can work 1.8 more without sacrificing quality with ISO 800 at f, while the SIGMA - must go due Aperture 2.8 at least on ISO1600. It is also the lack of optical image stabilizer is noticeable (especially when shooting).
The cropping objects is possible with the SONY much better with softer Bokeh!
If you want to create more focus in enough light to work in dimming SONY somewhat linear. Ie the corners better respond on Fade as the Sigma. In my view, the corners are sharp at Sony at f 4. When Sigma, this is not the case. Even at aperture 8 no improvement in the corners is more at Sigma to identify.
But the center and the central areas of the image are really good.
2. downside:
Now another - purely related to the optics and the sound criticism - not scare -> goes a bit towards wail at the highest level!
The silver casing does not fit with the perceived quality of the NEX. Has the bare metal of the Sigma housing not the look of stainless steel E-mount connection. And the silver paint a different hue. Therefore, it seems somehow inappropriate in a silver NEX. In black cameras, this aspect is irrelevant!
From my perspective, the clatter of the lens makes no - permanently - confidence-inspiring impression. I can not imagine that during transport in the off state remains a "loose" lens without effects me. When the lens is used only at home that's probably not a problem.
Maybe someone can post a comment - with his experiences - write to it.
For these reasons, I decided to return and only the same ordered 50's to keep the SONY Sigma. The difference in price of 50, - thinks he's in check.
Supplement 03.15.2015
Now, after more than a year of further experience with various lenses and focal lengths, I have come to the realization that the Sigma contrary to my former opinion, no problem with the rattle in the off state has. It just sounds funny but does not constitute a nuisance.
We are sorry for this devaluation.
Furthermore, I noticed that a joint assessment of MFT and APS-C sensors for this lens is not a really good idea.
An MFT, the Sigma is really a 5 star candidate. An APS-C in my view, but not more than 4 stars, because of not really perfect sharpness in the corners.
The autofocus is - admittedly - faster than the SEL50F18, at least if there is enough light available.
I would nevertheless like to express any recommendation to compare for the purpose in both lenses and only then to decide.
Price-performance winner is of course the Sigma.
