The result can be seen and be heard above all, thoroughly. Switching from one to the other Internet radio station takes only a few seconds. Title and artist are shown on the display during playback. Also can be set separately and regulated in 31 steps the display brightness with active, inactive and standby state. My (for me pleasant) brightness settings are: Active 10 Inactive Standby 2 and 1 (clock display in standby mode - at setting 0 the display is OFF!) The search functions are more than adequate and sound fantastic. At many stations you can see the streaming quality even select. Most stations I listen to the "quality area" of 128kbps to 192kbps and am extremely satisfied. Just out of interest I also have the playback quality via the analog RCA outputs tried> very bad and not recommended! Furthermore, in my device NO volume change (even with the remote control) possible via the analog outputs! (My DNT IPdio Tune has the Service Pack v266-a-113-A-559). Since I use the digital Toslink audio output and the master volume on adjusting the HiFi system has to get over this critical point for me. But I confirm the previous negative reviews on the analog playback fully. If you want to sound reasonable, so it comes to a digital link of IPdio Tune clearly not around. As many reviews have reported the unreliable wireless receiving part of IPdio Tune, I decided from the beginning to connect the Internet Radio only wired via RJ45 LAN cable to the Internet (via a network switch). This was probably the right decision because I so far - have found no dropout of audio playback - despite very slow DSL connection.
The instrument I find - contrary to many other reviews - built to be very simple and logical. The initial setup and basic adjustment with fixed or static IP (My network works without a DHCP and without automatic IP address distribution) and connect to the network via LAN cable only lasted a few minutes. Once you understand the basic principle of operation on the device incl. Scroll wheel and the pressure point, the handling is a breeze.
Since I only use the DNT IPdio Tune as Internet radio, I can not say anything about the many additional functions and should not be subject of the evaluation as well. Criticism I want to practice but to the number of storable internet stations. Theoretically, you can save it using the remote control up to 99 stations. But all stations from memory 13 may only be viewed via the remote control by means of unnecessarily many keystrokes and save even - in my opinion - to retrieve only complicated by Fernbedieung! On the device itself can easily store up to 12 stations and recall them. Using the remote control, however, only 10 stations are simple (ie without tangled shortcuts) retrieve! This I knew already but gem. Previous reviews and use only 10 to max. 12 "major internet stations" - then everything is really very easy to use! Furthermore, the channel separation drying the remote control frequencies is not great, because the remote control also partially and involuntarily controls the ambient LED lighting in the living room! So either visual contact with other receivers or generally avoid the use of the remote control, should any interference with other infrared receivers occur!
And here is my review of the DNT IPdio Tune in short form:
++ Very good sound via digital optical audio output (Toslink cable)
++ Title and artist are displayed during playback on the display
++ Display brightness for the active, inactive and standby state separately regulated or switched off
++ Very good and stable connection with no dropouts via wired LAN RJ45 cable (wireless off)
Huge and easy to find ++ station selection and search functions corresponding favorite categories or countries
++ Initial installation (with me by static, manual IP specification) easy and only takes a few minutes
++ Very easy retrieval of the memory locations 1 - 12 out directly on the device or 1 - 10 on one-key operation at the FB
- LED standby indicator of the unit to light> I fully taped!
- Very poor sound through the analog RCA outputs (would KO criterion, if one relies on!)
- Complicated store and recall of memories 13-99 From the remote control
- No function of the volume control on the analog outputs (and not to the FB with Service Pack v266-a-113-A-559)
- Remote control can control other unwanted infrared receiver! If this occurs align or avoid FB!
Conclusion: If one considers only the core competence of the device as an Internet radio and the sound quality via digital audio output, the DNT IPdio Tune is overall very recommendable (with Internet connection via LAN cable).
