Technology and equipment
The upscale appeal delivery includes almost all necessary for the operation of cable (USB cable A / B and / or RCA cable missing), two boxes and the amplifier unit. Except on the front panel is fortunately not even care elaborate piano lacquer finish available. On the control system, the controller for bass, treble and volume, the source switch (AUX, USB and MP3), a micro and a headphone jack, and a USB 2.0 port and a standby switch are available.
Audio signals can (MP3) and fed via a digital USB 2.0 B connector on the rear analog via RCA (AUX) 3.5 mm jack. In addition, on the back of two USB 2.0 outputs. A true on / off switch for the actual separation to the network is also available. More power save at off does not work - very nice. The amplifier provides 4 * 30 Watts RMS. That's enough forever - in front of the PC ......
As sound chip is obviously a stereo C-Media CM6610 (?) Or stereo CM6631A (??) has been installed. I can not make a real statement about the quality of / the chips. However, these should be able to spend up to 192 kHz in HD and include a USB 2.0 controller, and the necessary connection for headphones and microphone. That the whole vicious system as C-Media Stereo Headset is detected, suggesting most likely on a CM6610.
The speakers are connected by means of 6,3mm and very strong running cables to the amplifier unit. The bass reflex two-way speakers (2 bass-midrange speakers, 1 tweeter) make a high-quality appearance and are from the basic information like the Creative T40 II, but with more volume and Watts. The max. specified continuous load with 50 watts or short-term load of 70 watts will probably never be reached. As one would after Adam Riese so close to the PC ears fly ;-))
The power consumption is top in standby with 0.1 Watt. The rear on / off switch I do not use therefore.
The operation
If the devil is already turned on at boot time as well as when it is turned on when you shut down the PC, there is very dangerous sounding bangs / crackling in the speakers. That can not be good. Therefore, it should always be ensured that devil to turn on only when the operating system is up and off before shutting down.
If the system is supplied with power (outside standby), a slight noise is present. That bothers me, however, not the PC operation. If the music or a game is running, is nothing more to be heard.
After connecting to the PC and detected USB sound card is practically all done. The USB hub can be used and the sound output is available. That worked for me at first with USB port Windows 7 64-bit, 64-bit Ubuntu LTE 12:04 and SuSE 12.1 64 bit properly. The Music Edition is outstanding. As fits with the quality really everything. High / mid and low tones are as I expect it for music and the volume / bass / treble can be adjusted from nothing up way too loud. The boxes do that without hesitation with my ears in the very loud area not ;-)) centers can not be regulated and mix of height / bass.
Then was from another to conclude with Lustig and the sound was sad. In Devil then a return was prompted by the support. After connecting the new system the sound with Windows 7 64-bit running, but under Ubuntu and SuSE Linux nothing. As I was able to notice, I had changed the USB port on the PC. The devil had come 2.0 / 3.0 ports to one of the USB. Thus, I could notice that it does not always work when connected to USB 2.0 / 3.0 ports. After reconnecting to other real 2.0 ports (no matter what) everything worked again, at 2.0 / 3.0 ports, no matter what, the phenomenon was reproducible.
But unfortunately left to be desired, the quality of the sound output is still left. Even get a new system of devils and -anfängliches- same problem. Yet repeated call to Devil gave me a support staff who reported a basic USB problem with the operation under 64 bit operating systems. I may nevertheless times try the RCA connector version with the internal sound card the sound. Done and surprise, surprise, the sound was perfect. Even with the internal Realtek ALC892 with analog transmission there is nothing wrong with the other terminals at any time. Ua the headphone jack worked really good.
After a few days I have switched back to pure USB version just for fun and it works fine again. I have an explanation for it not: rolleyes :. For completeness, it should be mentioned here that the C-Media drivers under 64 Bit Windows must be displayed as a 32-bit !!!!
Thus remains negative hold:
- Operation of 64-bit operating systems and a USB port may cause problems
- (Accidental) operating at USB 3.0, depending on your operating system is not possible
- Loud crack in the speakers when the vicious system when turning on PC is already on, and also if it remains on shutdown
- Lightweight noise when no signal
This compares to the best music output and flashy effects in games. I do not want to miss. The sound output is much and very audibly better than the already good Creative T40 II.
Summary
3 stars for the technology with the minus points and 5 stars for the sound output. Makes 4 in the overall assessment. I would buy the system, despite everything again :-)) for comparable systems from other manufacturers have to serve much more Teuros.
