I also wish to associate myself with the positive opinions on this notebook. The notebook of my friend was suddenly and unexpectedly after 6 years the ghost, quickly had to get a new one. Too expensive, it could not be and but should be sufficient for surfing, multimedia, small image editing and word processing. Some years ago, I set up an Acer TravelMate for my brother and made my first positive experience with this company, which has influenced my buying decision positively.
My first impression: processing and keyboard are great! The performance to be proud of. Price / performance for this price range unbeatable.
On the notebook I like some previous reviewers also get Windows XP up and running smoothly. However, the drive runs with me in SATA mode. For this you should create a XP CD with integrated SATA drivers and are using an external CD drive. In the notebook no IDE DVD drive is more fitted, making the setup when loading the hard disk indeed but takes to the end of the charging process again loses because 2 SATA devices are addressed. A good old IDE DVD drive and an IDE-to-USB adapter helped further. Shortly corrects the boot order in the BIOS and the installation was done in 20 minutes. The bios can be reached by pressing F2 immediately after power. USB-CDROM as the first boot device is selected and my external drive was addressed immediately. If you operate the HDD in SATA mode, XP is still liquid.
What made me even more irritated, the existing BlueTooth button, although no module is installed and on the Acer site a driver but is offered with.
In short, I can here express a strong buy recommendation and hope you have still given a par valuable information.
Many Greetings
Steffen
