Ergonomics:
Excellent good point for this helmet: you can wear it with glasses for long hours. It does not rely at all on the branches.
The cushions are very thick (see "Sound insulation"), which is both comfortable and uncomfortable at pressure level heat.
The buttons are easily accessible, easy to recognize without removing the headset.
The headset folds into 3 elements thereby reducing clutter remains, however, well above the average. This is a very imposing helmet but considering all he embarks, this is not surprising.
Sound insulation:
When I bought it, the title (since changed) left to believe that the supplied headphones reduce outside noise. As I have headphones to active noise reduction (Bose QC3) which cost me nearly 10 times the price of the R + I was curious to test relatively.
As I expected, there is no question of active reduction (system using micro analysis background noise and emits a noise opposite to cancel them) but simply a GREAT sound insulation. The cushions perfectly cover the ear and are close enough to it to create a kind of barrier to the external environment. The downside is of course that these cushions tend to warm. Nothing unbearable but I do not see myself wearing them by 30 °.
Another point to know: the outside can not hear you but the reverse is not true; Indeed, your neighbors will benefit quickly from your music. Forget the idea of using this headset in an open space if you like listening to music at high volume. This is a blow to quarrel with your colleagues :)
Battery life:
So, I must admit that we have a very impressive item. Autonomy is really huge. To test it without spending weeks I was forced to let it run alone for 1 full day in my garage. The battery held a little less than 24 hours with the sound set to 70% of its volume (which is already much higher than what I support).
Recharging taking only 4 to 5 hours with a simple micro-usb cable (like 90% of current mobile), you can forget the stresses of autonomy (even have on hand a battery charger with you are really a fighter who never crosses a power outlet).
Connectors and media supported:
My first tests were conducted using a micro SD card. This is really the most original point of this helmet. Most of his competitors only work using a Bluetooth connection (hence requirement to have a phone or tablet on hand) as it offers a super interesting alternative: insert a micro SD card in the helmet itself.
The system works very well with MP3s. I tested various cuts without any worries.
Where there is a real flaw in my opinion is if you want to listen to music in FLAC format. Mainly used by audiophiles (including this helmet is clearly not the target), this format guarantees a listening without any loss of quality compared to the original CD format.
Unfortunately, although sold as compatible with this format, I have never been able to confirm. Some albums are not launched at all while others were starting in the middle of the music, with no possibility to move manually.
Let's be honest: this imperfection as a person probably hinder the formats used on exchange sites are dominated by MP3. Nevertheless, it's a shame.
Another nice point of this headset is the ability to plug directly as an external wired headset through the cable. In this way, you can connect with all devices that have a headphone jack. Allow just a 3.5mm audio cable is long (eg like this: [...] in order to connect it to your TV because the cable is not qu'1,5mètre..
What about Bluetooth? Simply perfect. I connected it to my PC and my phone in seconds and they ask me without any code. It appears more with his real name (R +), which makes their identification easier (when, like me, you have a string of BT accessories). Pairing takes only a few seconds and is stored. So that when I turn off my PC BT and I turn that of my phone, the headset switches automatically from one to the other. A range of less gifted in computer / electronics.
Sound quality:
Here is the most important point for me (and my ears).
From the outset, I will say that this is not the HiFi. The sound is more than adequate but very "stained".
In other words, it sounds with a very marked audio footprint that makes it, in my opinion, incompatible with certain uses.
The trend of this helmet will be an intensive bass boost. They are nevertheless very clear, round and without burrs.
A preset equalizer is provided and accessible with a single button that lets you soften the bass intensifying mediums, etc ...
Some nice presets that achieve a sound suitable for a wide range of musical styles but, nevertheless, we always find bass a little too present, making the inadequacy of conventional headphones to listen to me.
It does not matter because this is, again, clearly not the target of the designers of this helmet.
He excelled so if you listen to rhythmic music: pop, r & b, rock ... Even out properly by choosing the right preset.
In summary:
Here we have an excellent helmet given the ridiculous price at which it is sold.
Its autonomy and its ability to play the micro-SD card music make a very smart choice.
Its weaknesses (lack of thermal comfort, bug with the FLAC format, very present bass) will not interfere with most people.
Very comfortable for eyeglass wearers (this is rare enough that the emphasis added).
