* The f2.8 70-200 - almost 2000 euros
* 70-200 f4 - a little more than 1000 euros
* The 18-300 f3.5-5.6 - about 850 euros (new)
* The 28-300 f3.5-5.6 - about 750 euros
* The 70-300 f4.5-5.6 - about 420 euros (this)
The first two are much more expensive, but this is another level.
Looking at the last two ...
* They have more or less the same weight (about 800 g), but the 70-300 is longer (14 cm against 11.5 cm);
* The minimum focusing distance is 1.5m for 70-300 against 50 cm for 28-300;
* Both are compatible with small and large format sensors (DX and FX), including entry-level devices (D3x000, ...);
* The vibration reduction mechanism is the VRI (older) for 70-300 while VRII for 28-300.
* The 28-300 contains 19 lenses, against 17 in the 70-300;
By the number of lenses and by the type of vibration reduction mechanism, the 70-300 is older design.
I have a 70-300 that I used with a D300 and D700. The resulting images are quite good up to 200 mm and beyond a little less, and I was satisfied, but I went to the range of the first two ... but that's another story.
This goal gives very good pictures but if you are an amateur or even a connoisseur and prefer to have a single objective happening everywhere, invest a little more and take more 28-300 18-300 or the new, replacing two great goals to cover the range 20-300 mm and will give you better pictures.
