At the beginning I had these speakers as a stereo speaker to a Onkyo stereo amplifier. Here I have used it mainly for listening to music.
The boxes have a clear sound throughout the registers away. So both in the heights, and in the middle, and last but not least also in the bass range. Of course, these speakers are not as crisp bass as large tower speaker, but there are indeed compact speaker. For this size they have a very good sound and powerful bass (I've heard in any comparable large speakers - the price times left out of consideration).
Mitlerweie I use the speaker on my Denon AVR-1912, a 5.1 AV receiver. Together with a Canton Center, little devils surround speakers and an active subwoofer devil. Again, I realize what a sound spectrum have the speakers repeatedly. By contrast, my surround speakers sound extremely "Tinny".
In summary, I can be a strong buy recommendation for these speakers (both for stereo use as well as for the 5.1 or even 7.1 use). Who wants to have a better sound than these speakers deliver anyway need much larger (and more expensive) tower speaker.
Price / performance is very good at these speakers.
