- Canon EF 70-300 IS USM
- Tamron SP 70-300 VC USD
Both I have extensively tested - hereinafter my opinion:
One more thing first:
The often attested L-quality both not quite reach, but the image quality is very high considering the price.
The Tamron is seen structurally the more modern lens. No wonder, the Canon still has quite a few more years under his belt. Fast and silent (ring) ultrasonic motor, not with co-rotating front lens when focusing, excellent image stabilization, anytime possibility of manual intervention in the AF, included (but probably a bit too overblown) lens hood, 5-year warranty after registration are qualities that for speak the Tamron.
But what counts is the image quality. And here are both at approximately the same level. The Tamron is very sharp in the center, and considers this also to the image margins at a high level, while the Canon to the edges is easing back. The Tamron has for a slight tendency to over-exposure in some situations. But this can be easily corrected afterwards by image processing software. But the Canon is very light spill prone. A (extra payable) Lens Hood is here mandatory, otherwise the pictures but seem a little dull in low light. The Tamron is significantly heavier and less suitable for more compact DSLRs, as the combination would be front-loaded here. When 60D o. The Nikon counterparts fit haptic fine. At Canon we have the advantage of an original part, but the Tamron seems to have no problems with the housing in communication. The autofocus is very fail in both, provided the right amount of light. Otherwise kann`s take a little longer.
Ultimately, I decided for the Tamron that the overall concept fits better here. For the price, the Tamron has earned 5 stars.
