I would like to describe my experience in the last 6 months with the Philips 46PFL8008S here.
I run the Philips TV on a Denon AVR-X receiver, connected via HDMI with ARC.
The Philips TV is only responsible for rendering - the Denon for audio, an HD satellite receiver for television reception.
Undoubtedly, Ambilight makes Philips televisions unique. It's a great effect, and played a key role for me.
The design is contemporary and elegant. The processing of the device perfectly.
The manual is available in electronic form directly in the TV, or as a PDF download on the Internet at Philips.
The glass front reflects occasionally - this should be considered when setting up.
The LED TV which offers a very good image quality, even in 3D.
The viewing experience is further enhanced by the stylish 3seitige Ambilight.
With a magnifying glass I did not go through the Panel. About more information of image reproduction technique has been reported in great detail in other reports. I am very satisfied with the picture quality.
The structure of the menu is a matter of taste. I get along well with them. Subjectively could run direct entries more fluid /, but I also see this as not really big flaws.
When Smart TV I use occasionally streaming with max cathedrals, Tagesschau, ZDF media library, which previously always worked reliably for me. I had no hang-up or crash the TV software. Important here seems a sufficiently fast DSL connection.
The remote control communicates via radio with the TV, so that they need not be aligned with inputs on the TV, as usually infrared remote control. Basically, we can grow the FB as you want - to make even flipped and across the TV to the rear keystrokes - that even if they were out of the room next door.
One has to consider that in the FB a position sensor inside is recognizing which side only - front or back - know straight up. Only this page is active for input. So FB can keep vertical or upright mean that the page may not currently active. Just looking around a bit to play, and you will quickly become familiar.
The mouse function of the remote control is a nice feature.
With the Play / Pause / Forward / Reverse / Stop button is used to stop streamed movies, forward or rewind functions with me everything properly - even in HD stream without jerking (sets appropriate DSL bandwidth ahead).
NOTE: The TV also has an infrared receiver so that external remote controls, such as Logitech Harmony, can still be used.
What I have not been tested on the TV, and therefore not here flows in my review: the internal tuner, CI slot, PVR, USB and other Smart TV functions except said streaming.
All that is associated with the field of Smart TV I'm usually with my MacBook and / or Apple TV connected to the AV receiver. It is probably at present no TV on the market available, which serves all areas of a modern multimedia server perfectly.
In my eyes, a TV is primarily intended for television, so the image display. So the Smart TV functions currently a "nice to have" pose for me.
CONCLUSION:
So if a LED TV with looking really high image quality, and also likes to enjoy the effect of Ambilight, be found in the Philips 46PFL8008S a great device.
I give the Philips 46PFL8008S for excellent imaging and immersive Ambilight effect therefore 4 stars.
I am happy every day watching TV and would buy the TV again - so I speak from a buy recommendation, taking into account the above restrictions.
