First, once one falls the immense weight of 16kg on because one of the Postman does a bit tired, especially when it has to carry the to the third floor, but as the saying goes: Weight = quality! For quality / processing, we'll get later.
Now once the packaging! The boxes are packed well enough not to be damaged during transport, but I would have just wished due to the material of the boxes as well as in view of the higher price and not foam polystyrene, but you can not have everything, and it has indeed his job fulfilled. The cables are individually wrapped in plastic bags, which is also the case for any other component (2x satellites, 1 subwoofer and amplifier), there are as nothing to complain on.
It continues with the design and processing. It is not the most beautiful in the world boxing, that's for sure, but they have to hide either. The satellite as well as a large part of the subwoofer are finished in black. Although it looks like wood, is this to MDF, ie Medium Density Fiberglass, which is very common even with home cinema - used systems, but also to provide the higher production costs that pulls a wooden structure to be to circumvent. The front of the subwoofer is held in a darker silver / lighter gray on the top is a silver plastic strips in aluminum look with the Edifier - Logo to miss the whole a higher note. The grill of the 21 (!) Cm subwoofer is finished in black, on the right side of the subwoofer also is a bass reflex tube, which is held in the same silver as the stripes on the front of the subwoofer. The satellites are, as already mentioned above, completely black and behausen a small 13mm tweeter and a 92mm wide midrange. To give also the satellite a quality grade, Edifier has installed a high-gloss black bezel here which have to avoid any damage to the earthen a fine mesh, furthermore located on both sides still a printed Edifier - Logo, so that everyone will again turn reminded that he is a Edifier - acquired plant.
The amp / amp is made of metal and has a lot of weight and is very stable. In addition to the ventilation to the two side panels is again is a Edifier - Logo. These ventilation works quite well so far and keeps the passively cooled Amp cold enough and is only slightly warm even after several hours of benefit to reasonably loud volume. On the front there is a held in plastic front panel, where all controls are located (volume control, buttons for input, settings of the bass and trebles, and a mute button). In addition, the amplifier has an installed above the display indicating the volume or the setting of bass and trebles. Furthermore are to the display green LEDs around the entrance as well as indicate which setting you now set. To the volume control, which is a good haptic feedback and feels wertig, there is a kind of LED - ring that lights up in a pleasant orange and even in a dark room is not disturbing. In addition, located on the front of an entrance for a headset (the volume is then also here controlled by the volume control) and an AUX - Port. Oh, and you should of course forget the one Edifier on the top - logo is, in turn, reaffirmed that one, in fact, a Edifier - acquired plant. Furthermore, one still gets the C3 plant a small, handy, made of plastic remote control in check card format, which I have just dismissed as pointless gimmick but quickly erwieß to be very useful, especially when enjoying blockbusters, if you can not directly access the has amplifier. The range here is somewhat limited and one should these nevertheless already submitted directly to the amplifier, otherwise nothing happens. Overall, nothing can be objectionable in processing. The MDF is meticulously crafted and has no sharp edges, twinkling can be said of the amplifier and is just for comparison to the plastic boxes from Logitech is a different league, the weight and the feel of her.
Now we come to the main point of a sound system, the sound. I have a fairly widespread taste of what Metal, on charts to electronic "Zappelbundenmusik" enough. Compared to the Z523 from Logitech I noticed directly that the entire sound is generally warmer, due here in any case on the MDF used and I feel a whole lot more comfortable. One thing that struck me directly, are the heights. The Z523 have no tweeter in the strict sense but only midrange do the both and seemed somehow overwhelmed. The heights of the C3's are already on the basic setting clear, I have these available at the moment on which the +3 heights again emphasized more, everything beyond that I felt then but already a pungent and unpleasant. Another thing that handles the C3 plant very well, is the bass. Due to the size of the subwoofer itself and the subwoofer enclosure just a typical Logitech I expected a very sonorous and overly aggressive bass - sound, which might work well in action films, but the sound of a song unnecessarily distorted and realize ongoing acts tiring. Here I was very pleasantly surprised, because on the basic setting I found the subwoofer even very conservative, almost too weak. I have him at the moment to +5, where accurate and powerful bass delivers without unnecessary to rumble and to swallow any details, absolutely top notch! Where the system unfortunately are somewhat weakens the centers, although these are quite noticeable, but I find this a bit too shallow, here I had something rumfuchteln in the EQ of my audio player, but when you have once found the setting, the centers are concise and fully. Overall, I find the whole sound as harmonious, it can hardly be swallowed details and thanks to the external amplifier, the boxes are supplied with enough juice to play higher volume levels without much scratching. One should, in a system of 130 but do not expect any sound miracles and you should be willing to take a few compromises, but just for home listening to music, watch movies and occasional gaming session these boxes are more than likely due to the well for small to medium sized parties as overall volume but is slightly lower than at Logitech or Speedlink for example.
In summary it can be said that I C3 sound system did not regret buying the Edifier and I certainly look at the price of 130 to be reasonable, especially for what you get. People and audiophiles who are looking for a sound miracle for little money, will not find it here, but for people who endorse the very good upgrade of some, looking cold-sounding plastic cans and a powerful system need for everyday entertainment needs are with the C3 very happy ! 5 Stars :)
