So I replaced my wifi card with a new, more recent and less energy. It defers the need for 450 mah max but did not actually need that much. I suppose that cable captures about 80 of the 500 mah max available.
Windows 8.1 identifies the cable as a hub and treats it as such. I think it is important to check the power needed by the device to connect. I would avoid at all costs to connect another hub and multiple devices on the cable.
While the use for a wifi card seems a bit limited, I see very good input devices, keyboard, mouse or touch screen, in addition to any self-powered device.
In case of doubt on current relevant in your application, I would recommend to use an external USB port (expansion card), whose destruction has little consequence. Conversely, do well around the front matter of plugging it directly on a notebook last cry that can end in the trash ...
In conclusion, a good product, useful and well done, to not treat as a simple extension; visit the neighborhood geek if in doubt.
