1. Anteroom Of Death:
At first I was a bit confused and somehow stunned! As of this song began at the first hearing of the chorus, I thought the CD would be broken! The song is seeeeehr unconventional and bulky, but therein lies its strength. A song that you should repeatedly listen to like him and especially to understand ^^
After repeated listening I came to the conclusion that Anteroom Of Death even one of the best songs of Tarja at all!
10/10
2. Until My Last Breath:
For me, the weakest song on the album. Very catchy and a bit trendy but somehow boring. Although towards the end falls on Tarja's strong vocals, which also does not save the song but on average level addition.
6/10
3. I Feel Immortal:
Wow! Very strong power ballad that sounds as epic and powerful as sensitive and fragile! Very nice piano, strong voice and text; just a perfect Tarja ballad!
10/10
4. In For A Kill:
The first heavy song directly skin items, neat! Here shows Tarja va how high she comes with her voice. The chorus is just great! Gloomy Opening, crashing middle and an unprecedented wütetendes finale! Tarja proves here that she makes a good impression both as an opera diva, as well as metal queen. Stark!
9/10
5. Underneath:
This song reminds me of "My Immortal" by "Evanescence". Nevertheless, it is clear a Tarja-song, a classic rock ballad. Tarja`s singing is just fantastic and it draws back from their full potential, it is accompanied by a spine-tingling piano and guitar inserting later. I was impressed by the lyrics!
10/10
6. Little Lies:
Hm, interesting lyrics;)
Ok, the song itself ... Gothic Metal pure! Very catchy, dark and accompanied by a mighty chorus! The break at the end is amazing! Nevertheless, just the chorus sounds somewhat interchangeably, as opposed to most of the album.
8/10
7. Rivers Of Lust:
OMG! This is definitely the most outstanding song! Violent, albeit subtle, Lyrics (rape, child abuse), singing divinely, to the perfect melancholic gloomy soundscape! A ballad that stuck ... Absolute out tip!
10/10
8. Darkstar:
This song I liked also only at the 3rd passage. Tarja`s delicate voice here affords a duet with a real "Growl-tube".
At some point, this song turns out just as catchy, though it is initially not so noticed. The guitar playing is straight and heavy, Tarja sings on high doors, her colleague also, always accompanied by a subtle oriental singing in the background.
8/10
9. Falling Awake:
The hardest and fastest song on the album makes its title :)
Everything is just right. Catchy and out tip!
10/10
10. The Archive Of Lost Dreams:
Here we have another great ballad, although it can not compete with the other ballads but like! Beautiful, melancholic text, very diverse instrumentalized, vocally as usual: top! Melodic and to dream.
9/10
11. Crimson Deep:
And again: OMG! What a board of Metal epic! The epic guitar intro, the bombastic chorus Tarja`s incredible song: Just for 8 minutes and never boring. A song that I did not expect from Tarja so. Just something different, but which at the highest level! Out tip!
10/10
12. We Are:
Let's talk about the bonus tracks. Here we have a typical representative of the genus "Gothic". Moody, guitar at half-mast, ohrwurmiger refrain. Quite nice but I would not miss the song.
7/10
13. Naiad:
This bonus track justifies buying the Deluxe Edition! One of the most beautiful songs that are there! Without Metal Geschrabbel, only accompanied by percussion.
I also think the synth sounds and subtle strings orchestra. The refrain I'm just not out of my head, he burned himself. And what a voice ... madness ... For me the strongest song of the album!
10/10
14. Still Of The Night:
A Cover ... Does your own opinion. I think it's good!
8/10
Conclusion:
"What Lies Beneath" is proof that Tarja even without Nightwish. Point.
Only the sound I'm a bit disappointed. For a metal album that final bit lacking oomph!
Nevertheless 5 stars.
