Was not to be expected .....

What's in the package ?:
Delivered the Fiio X1 in a compact, simple cardboard packaging.
In this are, in addition to the player, a USB 2.0 cable A Male to Micro-B plug. Likewise, two screen protectors, manual and three stickers to the cabinet are new in a wood, carbon or Stars & Stripes optics "clothe".
The player is in a black silicone case, but quite strict (chemical) smell.
A battery charger is not supplied, and memory card and headphones are not included in the package. Given the low price of the player, this is, however, to get over.

Player unpack:
Now the player peel of the already mentioned black silicone sleeve. Too bad that this smells so nasty, because in terms of fit, there is no reason to complain - but no, I'd rather.
The player itself comes in a chic aluminum metal design therefore - everything is meticulously crafted. The keys are labeled gray, the contrast with the silver casing therefore rather modest. The Fiio X1 has the form of a cigarette, just not quite as thick. The front is dominated by the "Click Wheel" and the display, four keys are included. Laterally left the keys for turning on / off and for setting the volume is mounted. Below the USB port to charge the battery and for data exchange with the computer. Right is the slot for the micro SD card, above the 3.5 mm jack is attached. The housing sticker remain in the package, it would be a shame to the nice design.

What I wanted to mention:
In anticipation of the delivery of Fiio X1, I have done with it previously, to convert my CD collection in the FLAC format. A rainy weekend was perfect to generate 32GB music data, which I copied on as big a Micro-SD card.
The player calls the FAT32 file system.

Commissioning:
Insert the micro SD card into the slot. The is a little more "fiddly" lacks a clear feedback (click?), If the card is locked properly. A long press on the "A" key lets the wake X1, a friendly s "WELCOME" hue to me. Shortly after, the X1 the menu is visible. The display is certainly not "state of the art", neither particularly sharp nor particularly bright - but sufficient - ticked. I begin with the configuration of the player and select the Click Wheel to select the menu item "System Preferences." The Click Wheel turns itself as a mechanical rotary switch, no capacitive solution, but this is apparently due to the price. The "rotating wheel" works, at least for me, only with moderate precision. Every now and then a "click" is swallowed, once again skips the menu one step further than I would have liked.
Language "German" and then select the "Medienbibiothek". The Micro-SD card is scanned and the music is read quite quickly, almost 1,400 songs there are with me.
See it for me that I will not describe all the menu items.
With the Return key, it goes back to the main menu.
The songs were sorted in the meantime. Select the menu item "category" and activated with the central button on the Click Wheel.
The items are arranged by album, artist and genre. Furthermore, it is possible to mark titles as favorites and create your own playlists.

And how does it work?
I have connected my big Beyerdynamik DT990 PRO. First, I had given the impedance of 250 concerns whether the so recoverable volume is sufficient. To coincide with the door to the house - the Fiio X1 packs this hurdle. Although The achievable volume is not enough to generate hearing loss - but for the nightly music lesson, it is sufficient, without a doubt.
The sound quality judge in a plentiful subjective undertaking - I know. But the player I was really very pleasantly surprised. Was I think my iRiver IHP120 was already a "great thing", so shall the Fiio X1 an ordinary shovel after. What a clear, neutral sound, heart-warming, the wealth of detail - almost exhausting, but only almost.
For the first time I have no need to configure an equalizer - all is well.
Amazingly, the experience in how badly sound now partially titles in MP3 format.

Conclusion:
I did not expect that I can get with such a sound quality for quite narrow money, a player. The Fiio X1 has surprised me really positive
