However, to actually pay attention to whether one may opt narrow or normal for the size: At first glance, both see namely totally the same, but not sinds: Here the footbeds differ not only in width, as one might suspect but actually also in length. And basically the shoes loose half to two sizes larger than normal. That means: my husband, who wears size 42, for example, fits, 40 normal, but not 40 narrow. This is partly just because of the length of the footbed in itself, on the other, because the Verstellriemchen (find a better word for it) also fit differently or better or worse can be adjusted precisely depending on the model.
If our child is similar: He actually wears size 26 currently in 27 normal shoes fit much better than in 27 narrow.
And since I'm now well again briefly on my stripped star: Closure (behind the heel) is totally stupid. No child in the world (with a diameter of 28 or under it) gets this part to or because it is already for me as an adult a huge Friemelei every time. Here, a push button or for that matter, a magnetic locking mechanism would certainly have been more useful. If in doubt take the model that is open at the back.
So in short, you have to try, anyway. But in doubt order Definitely one to two numbers below your normal shoe size.
Incidentally, there is now also vegan shoes by Birkenstock for the event that you do not even want to go to hell later. ;)
