A Seagate Expansion desk that I had in the meantime again, although was very fast in reading (190 MB / s), but was it extremely loud (to me, at most direct unusable), and write performance was relatively low with 90 MB / s.
But back to this board (I have the 3 TB model).
As an accessory, a 125 cm relatively long USB 3.0 cable, a 12-volt adapter (1.5 A) and a short, multi-lingual leaflet with warranty and installation information is included.
There is also on the board a "free trial" WD SmartWare Pro. Would be even worse when looking for a trial still would have to pay. But the two-line 'Free - Backup Software Trial' I find then a bit cheeky. Especially since the word 'free' is written twice as large as the rest.
Positive - the hard drive has an external power switch. So you can easily unlock it only when needed. For ecological reasons there is to it but not necessarily a reason, because the power consumption of the disk is very low:
After power is about 5.5 watts, a short time later (when not in use, the drive switches off after a few minutes. The electricity consumption is then less than 1 watt.
Only when accessing files, the disc begins to rotate again.
Then the plate is not really be described as quiet. Who has a quiet computer and want to work in a quiet work environment, the will disturb the whirring of the disk when it is not at least 1 m away from one. No quiet alternative Unfortunately, I know. The sound is at least 'comfortable' than the Seagate.
The controller of WD announces itself as element 107C.
The transfers are fine. They range from 150 MB / s in the starting area and provide about 2/3 of the plate values in excess of 100 MB / s both reading and writing. Screenshots of tests with HD Tune Pro I upload.
This is the power under which supply the internal 3TB version of the Green or Red series.
Conclusion:
A relatively loud plate but quieter than the Seagate Expansion Desktop.
She has read worse, but better write performance than the Seagate. For values in excess of 100 MB / s but it almost does not matter (I see a gigabit network as a benchmark).
The electricity consumption is very low and the energy management appears to be excellent (after a few days of observation).
I personally have a very split opinion on this plate. If you like it quiet, the refrain (old Elements Desktop series without USB 3.0) must either speed or must dig deeper into their pocket and then also satisfied with less capacity to give (Portable series). These 2.5 "panels survive a fall times.
But who has a graphics card with active cooling, which is possibly not understand where my problems are and be satisfied with this Elements Desktop due to the speed.
For occasional backups the plate but almost ideal - power switch off and only use it when you need it.
Edit:
Here someone had reported problems with the power switch. I have tested this again and the board seems to only really off when you hold the power button and hold pressed. Otherwise, the disc just goes into an idle state. Similar behavior can be found at the WD TV Live media players. You have to also press and hold the OFF button to turn off the device properly.
None of the devices the way I have found an indication in the description.
Edit (09/12/2014):
Apparently there are misunderstandings on switch. There is no toggle switch, but a button (see third picture).
