Before 7D I had, incidentally, already the 5D, including a full-frame camera. However, this was to me someday too old-fashioned and a bit unwieldy, so I did then, the "downgrade" to the 7D. Who EF-S lenses (only for APS-C) has owned, will not make the transition quite so easy.
PROCESSING
As written in the introduction, I am satisfied with the processing. Another reviewer wrote that you should think whether you really need a camera for the war effort and can therefore enter into no compromise. My 10 year old 10D still works properly. The traveled through deserts and rain forests and has several trips behind. If you believe some experts on the Internet would be completely impossible.
Keeping the 6D and 7D directly next to each other, in fact notice that some elements such as buttons to the fraction of a millimeter smaller / shallower - In practice, this is hardly relevant, since the underlying switch probably go no sooner broken nor the can be operated button so bad. The 6D just has a minimal sleeker design, which also has its good points, if one is so much traveling. With the comparatively really (!) Inferior acting 60D 6D does not have much in common, except perhaps the division of buttons at the top or the built-in wheel rocker. It is understandable that Canon wants to create some artificial differences for expensive 5D Mk3.
Visually, the uppers of plastic does not stand out. This is required for Wi-Fi and GPS and has less to do with the potentially lower cost.
OPERATION
Noticeable, however, is the reduced number of buttons on the 6D, but as a purist little makes me - who has for example been constantly switch between JPEG and RAW? The "Picture Style" button on the 7D, I find similarly useless if you already saved as RAW and taking care of details such as white balance, color, brightness and sharpness to the computer later. Can probably be divided on the missing Joystick: I get along very well with the built-in wheel rocker. A small change, it is natural.
The viewfinder is not equipped compared to the 7D with an LCD screen area and therefore can not be dynamically adjusted. This feature is not missing me - at the 7D I had the impression that the LCD easily darkens the viewfinder. The only consequence is that you can not hide the unused focus points at the 6D.
For this, the EOS 6D are controlled from your smartphone and it can wirelessly transmit images, which is especially the move a big advantage, because it will save you carrying a notebook with appropriate adapters / cables.
AUTO FOCUS
The restricted autofocus with only one cross-type sensor falls to me in the practice of no consequence, nor the relatively central arrangement of the remaining sensors. This may be different for sports / action photographers - here is the larger sequence of 7D advantageous (8 frames / sec). That would actually be a good reason to stay with the 7D.
GPS
Some reviewers apparently there are problems with the GPS. This I can not understand. It even works in my apartment. Quite as fast as with a smartphone that approximate coordinates already receives over the air, it is not self-evident. A pure gimmick I do not see in the GPS, because I have a lot of my pictures so far provided manually with coordinates and 6D therefore saves me a lot of time. It all depends on what and where you shoot. If the procedure is a lot at home, in the studio or at the university course does not have to know where the picture was taken of each.
IMAGE QUALITY
For image quality I need not say much. This is how to read in numerous tests excellent. With ISO 3200 you can see a slight noise, but significantly less as the 7D, when the pictures I think are useless. If you want to brighten dark areas at low ISO speeds, are the one 6D additional leeway. For me, the noise of the 7D was the main reason for the change.
CONCLUSION
In summary it can be said that the rapid 7D is much better suited for action photography, while the 6D is perfect for ambitious travel / reportage photographers who want to achieve the maximum image quality. When traveling, the built-in GPS (and wireless) can also be very useful. Inveterate professionals who can not compromise, will continue to resort to 5D Mk3, which also has better video features, which I unfortunately can not vote for lack of experience. The 5D / 7D can be equipped with appropriate accessories with GPS.
TIP: I recommend very strongly the Canon EF 40mm 1: 2.8 STM to this camera. It costs 150 EUR and is on the image quality comparable to the best Canon lenses (in particular much better than many zooms, also from the L-series). Former users of EF-S or other systems such as Nikon may first need to save a lot of money without compromising on the quality received.
Attention: batteries from other manufacturers (eg white) the function properly in the 7D make, usually in the 6D problems. An information chip update seems necessary and there are probably now in some batteries. In any case, you have to sell the old batteries when switching to the 6D.
