1. HARDWARE
To begin times with something positive: The 11.6 inch screen is ... well, large and the resolution is pretty neat.
However, the viewing angle is a disaster: an optimal viewing you really only when you look directly at right angles to the device. Should the angle only a few degrees from (ie, viewed from the left or right on the display) shows almost nothing. Here was definitely saved at the wrong end.
The weight (> 1kg) is me personally too heavy for an ultra-portable tablet. The Apple iPad is just at the border (800g) that one can reasonably comfortable to hold it with one hand. This is no longer the case with the WeTab. Unfortunately, you can, however, also not so easy rest on his lap, because the device is incredibly hot after a short time. This, incidentally, means that the fan (yes, fans!) Start aufzuheulen what I feel as a relatively disturbing.
Do not try the WeTab from portrait to landscape (or vice versa) to rotate the way. The position sensor confuses the operating system seems so much that you spend good 3-4 seconds before a flickering image. Supposedly this will be corrected with a software update (have been fixed?), However, was on the device, which I held in my hands, nothing can be felt.
Battery: I could not test personally, but spoke of 3-4 hours at "normal use", which is only half as much is still like the battery life, which is promised on the WeTab site (for comparison: The iPad was 10 announced hours of battery life and creates under real conditions partially 11-12 hours).
2. SOFTWARE
The touch surface reacted poorly on my entries. This was on the grounds that "the device is running for a long time" and "that it is better after a restart responded" ... Okay, I have it so every time restart, if I want to respond to my input?!? Great concept ...
Multitouch (the de facto standard for touch-based devices) works or not at all from app to app totally inconsistent. Why do I have than average Joe User "learning" with each new app as you have to use it?
The browser is quite useful and rather nice to use on the thumb navigation. However, the Software on strike again in touch inputs.
Flash videos in HD let the fans roar only louder and be (very "choppy" ie) only at an extremely low FPS played. That you can not do that for a long time. Flash applications (such as games) behave quite similar due to the lack of hardware acceleration. I would bet that the sole use of Flash abgräbt of battery life 1-1.5 hours.
Most programs are not adapted for touch operation, which makes it absolutely unusable at least for me. Although you can connect a mouse and USB keyboard to the device, but then I could also equal to a cheap (er) s buy notebook or netbook. In e-mail program it is to scroll a torment by its existing emails because there is no scroll navigation, as we know from the iPhone or Android, but you have to make accurate with his fingers the tiny scroll bar. That's no fun.
In the "App Store" a gaping void and most apps are offered only homescreen links. Where is the promised access to the Android Market?
3. CONCLUSION:
The famous phrase with "x" ...
What "Early Adopter" is elsewhere called, is well known in the case of WeTabs more beta testers. The whole device acts carelessly and unfinished. These things happen apparently, if you absolutely want to bring more for the 2010 Christmas season to market his half-gares product. I work even in software development and get goose bumps at the thought that I should have a rubber-stamp such unfinished product.
The many bad reviews that collects the device in the press, in my opinion, fully justified and, according to the statement of the representative of a major German electrical market, it currently has to fight there with a returns-ratio of almost 100%.
With 6-12 months more development time would have made the thing maybe what could be, but I'm afraid that the name WeTab now "burned" after only a few weeks and you can take the product on no green branch more. Interested hobbyists should, in my opinion, be patient, 2-3 months. Until then the price should be tumbled to adequate 199-249 ...
