While I was the MicroLink dLAN Highspeed Starter Kit (Ethernet 85 MBit) -Set used a few years ago, the Devolo dLAN is for about 11 months 500 AVmini Starter Kit yet so solid collected in my application, and I have to through adult experience, which I mostly use the device for internet use and use a DSL tariff with 16 Mbit / s of a "large" provider. While an adapter has been connected directly to the router on the ground floor, the second device put in the living room in an electrical outlet. The fact is that you should put these Powerline adapters, directly into an electrical outlet without using a power strip o. Ä., Because otherwise noticeable wasted potential. I have several times found the internet speed with a "normal" program. The fastest values I detected when connected in a particular living room outlet, so here helps try out, like when determining the optimal location for a subwoofer :-)
When downloading approximately 12.5 Mbit / s are typical, with WLAN Router I come with good reception at 13 Mbit / s approach - with this information I can live relatively well. But there is a caveat: occasionally hangs at "Mini Starter Kit" to connect. This means that z. B. stops when calling a page, the progress bar and either seconds or sometimes also longer nothing happens. At first I had the router or the cable connection is suspected, but this I conclude long as a culprit. When I call a connection in such a situation with my Mac via "Airport" (ie WLAN), it works instead immediately - so it is at the junction of devolo adapter! With a download me is the not yet happened fortunately, also I had to reset o in any device. Ä. Run. About such problems ("trailer"), I have already read some other reviewers.
As it is now, but with the "AV Wireless system +"? Commissioning worked (for me) not once, even though I know the procedure, "plug the adapter into the power outlet, connect the network cable, press the encryption button - that's it, at least according Devolo". Since I had installed the latest version of the software "dLAN Cockpit" already on the MAC, I just wanted to re-integrate the two new adapters - somehow worked not, an adapter has still not recognized, even though I also again encrypting the old adapter reset had. No matter - after a while went then everything good, with even the app "dLAN Cockpit" (Apple) is to be mentioned positively. But visually it will come off due to the clarity on the MAC better, but that's a matter of opinion.
The wireless system could be in a duo now therefore combine with my set or operate only in the set, as well as the comfort has now increased significantly. On one hand, no outlet is blocked, since the adapter each have a built-in socket! That's just in homes with little free outlets very pleasant, especially the use of multiple sockets should be avoided as mentioned above. Although a powerline adapter is used with me in 1st line also for safety reasons, so that my Mac (so explicitly with cable) is not used in WLAN operation, there were such. As the use of the iPad on the 1st floor quite the need to enhance the wireless signal as the reception was often weak, even though my router actually sends strong. Since you can now use the second adapter as a kind of wireless repeater in your own network, I can now easily surf again - this does not contradict my interest in a secure system, because some devices now times not (LAN) know or use cables ,
And how is the operation? So far I have not experienced any interruptions - which I have the AVmini adapter to the router now exchanged against an adapter from the wireless kit and have tested the second adapter in the living room and also on the 1st floor. In order not to distort the test, I also have my previous adapter testweise not used to rule out any problems.
Who needs such a system? Various testers swear apparently on the 200'er of Devolo, as these work well also solid and fast. Who At length a new system and emphasis on a plus in performance and comfort, is located here in my opinion wrong. The built-in socket adapter I want to do without. The "Wireless" mode is more than just a gimmick, and for many an extension of the wireless router or the wireless streaming of data. Here I am with Apple TV etc. already "pre-loaded" and spoiled because particular HDTV content can be streamed easily.
May be mentioned but not that both adapters are relatively bulky and take up much more space than my "mini-kit" - but this is also each one slot free.
Topic sounds: my Devolo dLAN 500 AVmini Starter Kit makes slight noise, but I hear only conscious listening (no devices are turned on, silence in the room) - Tinnitus moderately high frequency, it is not easily audible but not annoying - my plasma or PS3 are "dramatically" louder. In normal operation I hear otherwise nothing. Here probably everyone has to test himself. In addition, it also depends on how close the outlet near the ear is, in the living room behind the rack the adapter is virtually inaudible.
In short, just too good for surfing, who wants to build a home network for multimedia, here is a very good tool at hand: lack of equipment I can not judge how well they can transfer 3D content unfortunately. The best test - the full-bodied statement a high transfer rate up to 500 Mbit / s, however, is a certain skepticism to bring, because I know anyone yet who has reached this (theoretical) value so far anyway, since especially the age of the house , etc. plays a crucial role. The values of the "dLAN Cockpit" (optimally 220-250 Mbit / s, can also only about 150 Mbit / s) are talking about otherwise well for themselves. Wi-Fi is in my way, with 65 Mbit / s in the dLAN Cockpit displays (lt. Description of devolo 300Mbit / s "gross").
Nothing is perfect, but I like it. Should I gain more experience over time, I will add a response accordingly. The scope of services (especially the wireless functionality) justifies the current price despite everything full 4 points - if not satisfied the product goes just back :-).
Addendum 03:01:14: occasionally "hang" the system, the Internet seems to be disturbed. Whether here the "old" are 200'er or 500'er adapter responsible, which I use as a set of 6 adapters, or even the router, I can not figure out yet. WiFi works then testweise properly, so it is probably due to an adapter. No matter when it will not operate normally after a short time again, I prefer short the LAN connector at the MAC and insert this back into it. In most cases, I again a normal connection. So far I have the adpater not reset, so still a buy recommendation!
