In all hymns of praise, biographies and other eulogy in connection with the musical work of Jethro Tull is on the front line always Thick as a Brick, which is certainly rightly considered a masterpiece. But a passion play in the favor so dropped (at least at that time, 1973), remains incomprehensible to me until today. I imagine, therefore, sometimes before, Thick as a Brick had not existed (horrible idea) and then wondering if the status of a passion play would also be so negative. For me it was difficult but the approach to the topic, such as Ian Anderson converts the afterlife particularly bizarre. Not that Thick as a Brick is now been very easy, but Anderson says himself that ultimately makes him the warm, homorvolle and completely ironic story of the 12 year old Gerald Bostock still particularly true delight and fun. After Anderson's presentation, the former band was completely tapped after the huge success and praise for Thick as a Brick together into the trap of wanting to present a serious concept album. Start recording again from the front, Ian did not want to, so he arranged the music entirely new, shortened on normal album length and so was a passion play. Many musical ideas were probably not taken into account. Proof are the 11minütigen about Chateau d'isaster's tapes on the 20th anniversary. Who makes such great music unpublished, must be convinced of his qualities indeed. If you think about it, who is allowed to publish all his shit nowadays ... without words. Which later albums have musical ideas were used in Lent, largely beyond my knowledge. Sure securitized are two songs on War Child, namely skating away ... and Only Solitaire. But otherwise there would be even more, because it was ultimately the idea of a double album because. Anyway, musically a passion play is also master class, but maybe the claims for Thick as a Brick were for many simply become too high, who knows. Anyway, Ian Anderson decided then, this way no longer to pursue, perhaps much to the chagrin of many fans, and returned to "simpler" songs. Only Baker St. Muse was again a trip to these climes. What perhaps made A Passion Play for many as problematic, had this bizarre story about Laban after death, which uses singing as standard with the intermittent heartbeat at the beginning of the album. As I said Thick as a Brick is not preparing Ian Anderson probably always a new pleasure, a passion play but probably. At least from musically but completely wrong. The question would then ultimately really to ask, a passion play would not perhaps Jethro Tull's masterpiece without Thick As A Brick? Well, I do not want there speculate Thick as a Brick is perhaps one of the finest and most timeless works that exist, but the significance of a passion play is totally undervalued for me today. And humor is but with the Story of the Hare, who lost his Sectacles still there. Musically though completely out of the context, but a delicious story. For those who like to delve into is often a piece of music a passion play an absolutely worthwhile recommendation. But the album takes time, maybe 34 years were not enough.
