I. My Background
I have used in the past 2.5 years, the Samsung Wave with Bada I. That was last bada 2.0! For all those to whom nothing says bada an in-house operating system from Samsung has been. Whereby it has never traded at an operating system basically if you look at it closely. Nobody knows today why Samsung bada has rather neglected. But they took the time with the bada Wave I get out and that was at the time a Tophandy and purely from the technical data on the level with the then-new iPhone 4. However, bada is low in apps today, it jerky as hell, the possibilities are very limited and the design of TouchWiz 4.0 only went at the end of my nerves.
So I went in search for a new smartphone. Basically, I was all open, but over time it became increasingly clear to me that I want to try it with Windows Phone. Why? Actually, especially because iOS and Android did not appear to me as real alternatives. Android mainly because of the lousy update policy, but also because I'm not so big Google fan. Apple has also never really impressed me as a company, but this last icon design I was generally on the nerves.
Windows Phone, however, brought a new UI, plenty of fresh, new ideas. I just had the impression that if you look at which company has experienced in recent years the greatest progress, then that was probably Microsoft. I'm actually not a Microsoft fan, which just runs still too much wrong, as that which could be found fully well. But Microsoft has started to use its tremendous market power and lead the many systems, programs and services together. Everything from one source is the motto that makes sense and that Microsoft has recognized like so much a bit late. But I have looked at Windows 8 and even if not all like me there, it's just in the right direction. So I came to Windows Phone. 8
Now I was looking for another device and I quickly realized it needs to be a Nokia. Why? Quite simply: high-quality and good service, Nokia's exclusive apps and just great products. My choice was then on the Nokia Lumia 920, mainly because of the camera, but also because of the display. Since I have long been no more compact camera, is the mobile phone camera at these snapshots replace now and in the long term, the trend is in that direction anyway. In addition, Nokia is a European manufacturer!
II. Built-in hardware
Nokia built the Nokia Lumia 920, as befits a flagship, only the finest hardware. I've never been a fan of superlatives so as Quad Core, 2GB RAM. One sees the iPhone that it does not need and the Galaxy S3 that it does not necessarily entail. The installed processor is very good, 1GB Ram perfectly adequate, the camera has been sufficiently discussed on the Internet and those who say it is not so good, in my opinion, are rightly in the minority. Because the camera is very good. There are also NFC and full LTE support, the Nokia Lumia 920 is technically fully at the height. The only thing I was beginning to think was the display. 4.5 inches had me a little big. This concern has vanished into thin air, 4.5 inches is the perfect size. Anything less, especially less than 4 inches is just tiny. You see anything on these displays.
III. Processing
The Nokia Lumia 920 is processed perfectly, only the Power button is in my opinion a bit too much leeway. Here everyone should test yourself at the store, whether it is at a 600-unit in order for him or not. I can arrange myself with happy makes me not the Power Button.
Otherwise, already makes it in his hand holding the Lumia 920 fun. It just feels damn good, the weight is fine. Most of all I look at the matt back of my smartphone, which just looks great. This matte black, the rounded edges.
Moreover, I could not see any weaknesses in the processing, everything flows seamlessly into one another.
IV. Software
Windows Phone 8 provides, in my view several strengths, as is for a fresh user interface with tile look and Live Tiles. Then Windows Phone offers the unique integration of Facebook and Twitter.
The included Nokia apps are really great, especially the entire series with HERE Maps Here, Here Drive +, Here and Here Transit City Lens.
- Positive
OneNote: the move edit online notes and read. I do everything now with OneNote, my to-do lists, shopping lists mean, everything.
Office: Prima to go quickly go through even just a document that is to be discussed equally. One can imagine the presentation that will be kept the same, by looking again or something look in old documents.
Skydrive: Skydrive itself is already great. From the road it makes twice as much fun.
Facebook: The Facebook integration, both in the People Hub, as well as in the news hub is brilliant. I chat on the move at Facebook, look me the wall by someone on.
Skype: Well, what can I say. Could you extend deeper into the system, in my opinion. But it's great to keep on the move once just a Skype phone conversation with anyone who is 1300km away. No additional costs.
Outlook: The perfect compatibility with Outlook. I synchronize my calendar 4 about my contacts, and email can be oh so indeed. Is superhot, that I have access to all my folders.
Beauty: Windows Phone is just beautiful POINT.
- Negative
No possibility of different volumes: Annoying.
Nokia Music takes 4-5 seconds to start: luxury problem, but still.
Music is interrupted when photographing: Although only the clicking of photos, however, must this be?
Had been two Freezes: UPDATE!
V. Criticism of Windows Phone
A NotificationCenter or a file manager I do not miss. Certainly, however, there are some things that may not actually missing, the MS could improve but. Essentially, as for example the integration of Skype in Windows Phone call. With the available app that works out quite well so far, but I wonder why Skype is not as integrated into the system, such as Facebook. I'd like normal from the contact. or News menu Skype messages or video calls perform, that would be for me then a real integration into the system.
App problem I can only say that with me no wishes remain open. What else would be nice:
- Tagesschau
- Official Dropbox app (the unofficial is not bad, but officially I would prefer)
Here in this forum, there are some who criticize a lot and let Windows Phone in my eyes stand bad. And it's not bad in my eyes absolutely. That's why I want to briefly touch on issues that I did not.
1) problems with the battery: I create a rule two days.
2) problems with the camera: I do not have everything on automatic and the photos are just great. Sure, no comparison with a compact camera and in really bad conditions rushing pictures of the Lumia 920. But normally the images are better than the other mobile phone cameras and for me there is no blurring.
3) Memory Problems: Well, the Lumia 920 has 32GB.
Some do this as if Windows Phone really bad. They complain about elementary functions that they lack. Like I can not determine, and if I stand next to a friend with Android or iOS, then some basic deficit WP me is never noticed. Sure, some things can another OS better, other things turn WP can do better. That is also the reason why X and Y buys a Lumia Galaxy. The OS that suits to your needs you are looking at. My Windows Phone meets my needs completely.
But to very briefly to tell time from a trip, I made last week in the presence of two iPhone owners (iPhone 4S and 5). We arrive in the city, I once determined our position with Here Maps and led us to the right place. Who was the fastest? I! Why? Offline Navigation! -D Then we looked for a particular local attraction. While the two desperately looking for signs, I start Here City Lens, go to attractions and forecasts in this direction. Then we stand in front of it, the two are looking for a board with more information and a try with her iPhone on Wikipedia what out. I take back City Lens and go to the declaration which is deposited there. Already I have the information. Again, I was with my Lumia 920 King. Then we took pictures. Who had it first uploaded on Facebook? Right, I. Even properly tagged. -D So went the. When we sought after by public transport, who was fastest? I. Those who could not breath at one Wi-Fi in a cafe upload all photos in Skydrive and share them with the two and send them the link via e-mail? Who made the most beautiful panoramic photos with Photosynth? Who has ever taken the best pictures (without comparison with compact camera)?
I just love to go to work on my OneNote notes on what I have to do. I love Facebook to cancel events in the calendar. As I have both then shows how great it is when one's contacts are directly linked to a Facebook contact, and you can view its Wall and photo albums without effort, they were really fascinated. The need every time from an app out there and then in the next. And only scroll, scroll, scroll. Then I took the opportunity and presented them Windows Phone detail. The People Hub knew already, then I showed them the photo-stroke, they found class (which he also is yes). Have them ICH Tile explained. Especially the Skype Integration (always online), caused a sensation. In fact, she had to agree with me: Windows Phone looks great. No matter what you do with Windows Phone, it looks beautiful. The Live Tiles make a simple on. Converts I do not have them, but they have seen that there are Windows Phone and that the concept behind it is superior in many ways iOS.
There are still more things that are really great. The combination of SMS and chat in a stroke. Nokia Music, the two found especially the display of images in Lockscreen infinitely sexy, but also the fact that you can store four mixes offline. Without forgetting that it was really envious of my keyboard. As I typed that, played the keyboard just once again full its strengths. I am every day amazed at how Windows Phone anticipates what I'm saying. The Madness. I typed a short SMS, but in reality, I needed almost always only the first letter of the word and then enter my Lumia has been suggested to me the word you want.
VI. Conclusion
Certainly there are still weaknesses in Windows Phone and some things can Android or iOS certainly better, but it's not nearly as bad as some make it here in the last few days. Criticism is justified, but they must be realistic and consistent with reality. In recent days, I had the feeling that some criticism was simply practiced completely detached from reality. Grumbling grew. Microsoft announces an update? Why only now? The problem my phone is useless! Some lack an off button (WTF ???), others find the basic functions are missing (so, what then?) And still others complain about just like that. People, it's just a phone. And it's even a very good phone and what you're looking for the perfect OS with the perfect mobile phone that does not exist and will never exist. At the risk of repeating myself: Microsoft can make much better no doubt, but they also make many things really well.
It is important that Microsoft now stay tuned. Constantly updated release (min. 1 per quarter), Bugs always fast and quick fix (as Apple makes), continuously improving things merge functions and integrate deeper into the system and the big drum rotate, so the situation will improve in the Appfront. Some minor things could be supplied, for example:
- Datenzählfunktion
- Flip-to-silence
- Various volumes
- Memory Problem
Otherwise, I do not miss anything. Windows Phone fun.
Conclusion: I bought a Windows Phone and that is a good thing.
