as a basis for this judgment I have photos compared to different camera models in higher price ranges from 150 Euro, which were shot by the respective cameras.
My first criteria, which is why I had chosen this camera:
- At least equivalent images compared to my Canon PowerShot A710 IS
- Zoom a bit more
- No batteries AA batteries but more
- More compact
- Large light-sensitive image sensor is suitable nachtaufnahme
- If necessary even by video-capable, best in Full HD
- SDXC Memory Card Support
- Decent operation
- Many flexible functions
- Sharp display
- And even a few minor points
after much compare different cameras, I decided, after a year-long search around for the Canon PowerShot SX230 HS, which I bought about in November 2011.
This camera is slightly improved compared to its predecessor, as it has been slimmed down to 2 megapixels (noise more megapixels on the same sensor size = more, less detail and other disturbances in the image which are undesirable).
even after looking at several shot with this camera photos I was initially a little skeptical and took a while to make up my mind because this seemed photos often somehow blurred, but also very good shots in between were. This irritated me somewhat.
Operation and function

The settings let alone the operation were compared to my old Canon almost identical because Canon uses here the same operating system on the cameras.
very good and expresses useful especially in manual mode, I find the wheel, which can also be used in the classic D-pad style.

I was initially a little disappointed, because the photos looked mostly rather blurred once it was dark.
the cause was quickly found: the camera shot in auto mode when it is dark most of the ISO 1600 images, which means, as 16-fold light amplification and thus higher noise levels. On a positive note I have that prevent shaky pictures with this camera in this high ISO are rarely a problem, but at the expense of detail in the image.
my old Canon had a maximum of ISO 800, so the images in automatic mode were usually better, but shaky.
I now use only the program and the manual mode with ISO 100 fixed, since the images are truly outstanding and razor sharp.
the colors are natural and there are different ways of recording the images already in other colors. As usual, the color effects like black and white, sepia color enhancement, and the like.
The LCD display is also sharp, what to my old camera bothered me a little, because this is a rather blurred image. So you can all details on your display after already shooting recognize. which I think is also great: it is even very bright, you want to save battery and have therefore the screen always darker, then just stays a few seconds on the display key and already, the display light of course it is when you turn the camera back on yours. original brightness setting.

I would recommend this camera real. even if she gets some bad reviews, it is often more to it, that hardly dealing adequately with this camera.
Photos are partially at least as good as with an SLR. Of course this refers not to all situations.
Despite the many functions of the automatic mode for people with little experience has been designed to take pictures. So if you got used to the photograph, will probably use the automatic mode. there are other automatic programs, which I feel but rather than useless.

is a pity that the camera though a 14x zoom, but a makronahgrenze of 5cm has. my old Canon had a makronahgrenze of 1cm. close-ups of course that was better. But despite the close range 5cm much is compensated by the extra megapixels and just cut out the necessary from the pictures, what you wanted to have :)
the camera does the rest very sharp macro photos!

used instead of the preferred automatic mode the program mode with ISO 100 set and if the images are to be even better, you should also draw out the manual mode, also with ISO 100. sets the aperture for normal photos at 3.1 (ie open) because when closing the aperture in bright conditions Photos are usually only get worse. for Shooting Lightning sets the aperture 8 and exposed as long as possible, then increases the chance of a lightning to catch, but a tripod is necessary for this :)

also a fast memory card with Class 10 is recommended, as this affects the speed of the camera positively.
I'm excited about this camera and am glad that I decided again for a canon. But beware: not all canons make such good pictures, but that's with any vendor is a problem. Therefore I also have a year needed to me a camera has convinced!
and the images are usually only good when the person in front of the camera has an eye for motive. not all due to a camera. a good car with the wrong person occupies can not harmonize!
