So is not that simple.
Synology Disk Station is like a computer with its own operating system which has to be integrated under Windows on the network and for which there are special programs for storing and managing video, images and music have to be the then all installed, configured and understood.
Since I have connected the device to a Fritz box was all a bit more complicated. Only gradually became clear to me how it all plays together. The instruction manual is indeed detailed and beautiful to look at, but full of technical terms and abbreviations have been determined and written by an IT engineer.
Here are my tips for installation:
- IP settings for the network in Fritz box (if any) adjust (AVM Help page googling)
- Install DSM and update software once Firmware and Software
- Create a "Volume", "Shared Folder" With the built-in hard disks with software
- From the DSM package center software for managing video, images and music load (if required).
These programs are pretty powerful tools with many features. If you are interested necessarily read / train!
- All files must be "indexed". This can take, so be patient.
- Connect the Windows Explorer DiskStation "Network" with the PC
And one more tip: hard drives undergo essential when creating the volumes to intense scrutiny (lasts forever but the NAS server should finally without errors). One of my two WD 4TB NAS hard drives had probably "klackerte" bad sectors and. After checking and correcting them now runs quietly.
