But the fact is that Dark Souls requires a completely separate approach from the player. Today, the average player is supplied with relatively simple fare. We experience setbacks here and there, but at some point one is the superman in the respective world and has no worthy opponent left. Not as Dark Souls. In Dark Souls, the patience of the player is put to the test. Whoever incites, will be punished mercilessly. At the same time, however, experienced players can enjoy the game much faster paced without looking death in the eye immediately. You can learn over time to, but the challenge is always made.
Personally, I have now tried several tactics total distance of more than 250 hours on the clock and Dark Souls have. I still have my weaknesses in the game - I have by no means mastered it. There are still moments when I feel ridiculously strong. And that's just as well. Even experienced players with too much levity quickly disabused. So have to look game design.
Dark Souls is definitely not easy to digest. It is true that one should definitely bring a little frustration resistance. However, the moments when the game is unfair, you can count on one hand. The frustration increases and decreases by the way with the innovative and already proven in Demon's Souls online mode.
Basically you play Dark Souls Online (unless you explicitly start the offline mode). The player remembers it initially nothing and it plays like a traditional (albeit heavy) action RPG. Over time, however, one finds clues that originate from other players. These notes often give more or less useful advice (or lead one into the death). Furthermore, you will sooner or later a victim of "invasion". Here enters another player in your world to kill you. It's kind of a complete random mini-boss battle, which can gladly extend unfair (because the other player). In return, however, you can call on the basis of symbols allied players in his world to fend off the attackers in a restricted co-op or even yet to cope schaffbare bosses together.
I do not recommend Dark Souls is for casual gamers with little patience and a little time to learn. Obtained here definitely no graphics Bombasten who plays more like a story rich interactive movie. No, Dark Souls is a game of the old school, where there is everything to earn themselves. The existing albeit hidden story can be found piecemeal based on subtle clues and hints. But in general is in Dark Souls solely the gameplay in the center. And that plays terrific.
Downer there yet to satisfy:
- The PC port was a rush job, the result of a petition. Accordingly, adjustments for the PC missing. Thus the extradition version of the game earned on the PC actually rough deductions. Only Fan modifications create good remedy. And those who put off on the PC before the gamepad, will be unhappy. A lower rating would however do the product generally wrong.
- In particular, the second half of the game dulls somewhat. You can tell some corners that here more could have been, but it was the release of stress and had to cancel things. However, you will be compensated by the additional content of the Prepare to Die Edition - This includes a large-DLC Artorias of the Abyss with extremely challenging new content.
- Until recently, it was a Games for Windows Live - forced connection. Since the system but "is dying", will soon find a connection to Steamworks instead (which is already in the follow-up "Dark Souls 2" is in use). Therefore, you can ignore it.
