This book presents a collection of beautiful plates and lots of interesting information, though sometimes dense manner presented. The largest square is obviously devoted to the presentation of the uniforms for the last royal troops and those of the Republic to the Empire. But there is also a (very) brief summary of combat tactics, rank insignia, flags, weapons and a fairly complete list of units each with a short historical note.
My main regret is that the "tactic" part is barely addressed. For example, the respective roles of the soldiers, hunters, riflemen and sappers are not explained. As often, the view of stewardship (counting buttons and colors of siding) eclipse that of the actors (how they fight and how lives between battles).
