Anyway, a new Mario platformer is in the house and as expected it rocks the booth. I found as a child, the three "Super Mario Bros" parts on the Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES; the absolute ultimate in video games and they gambled day and night. Years later, there is now the reincarnation on the Nintendo DS. Qualitatively nothing has changed - the graphics are colorful, varied, despite two-dimensionality has lots of 3D effects and just plain fun. Especially the underwater world I find pretty cool visually staged. The music provides the famous Mario tunes in easily reamed shape and the levels are raised by the concept betrays doubt. Since cavort the familiar mushrooms, giant caterpillars and voracious fish, which you can blow up the march by duly plunge and fireballs. Of course, float (regardless of gravity) back countless blocks in the air, in which coins and other goodies are. Should Apart from the already well-known mushroom to restore the normal height is now also a Mini Mushroom, which can shrink to several millimeters Mario and a giant mushroom, according to its consumption Mario think once more about a diet and almost over the entire screen covers to make everything so flat, which places him in the way.
And speaking of the screen - of course, the two screens of cool handhelds are exploited in a practical way. On the upper screen is usually the main events take place, but sometimes slips to the bottom if you areas "underground" enters - for example after a slip by a tube. Otherwise, you can see in this example, how far it is still away from the target level and how many of the large coins has been snatched. Of which there are three to find in each level, which are sometimes more, sometimes less severe hidden. This requires you, for example, to buy their access to Toad-houses where you can catch goodies like extra lives or fire flowers - and I would also be at a cool little thing in the game: If you are going as a Feuerblume calls his own, so is this not just another wasted, but you just hoarding them and puts them on occasion (as if you were hit by an opponent and loses the ability) again. Showing this will also tap on the lower screen and activated by simply - touchscreen goodness. By touching the pressure-sensitive screen you switch between the eight worlds to which a desert landscape and a tropical island belong.
But especially in the numerous mini-games that are separately selected, the touch screen is particularly suitable for use. So you have to draw about trampolines in the air, so a run Jumping Mario does not fall into the abyss. Unfortunately, many of these mini-games are not new, but simply taken from "Super Mario 64 DS", which does not of course affect the gameplay.
By contrast, another little thing (for me) already: Sadly you can only save at certain points in the game. Namely, when you enter a new world, one has graduated from a tower or castle level or a sealed access ransomed by the use of the collected large coins. This may sound to many opportunities to save, but in between several levels may already be. This means that you can, "forced" still needs to continue playing after the successful completion of each level where you might even collected all three major coins to give to be able to ensure this success. This does not mean that it would be to continue playing (on the contrary!) A pain, but I find this fact a bit annoying because sometimes I just simply would like, sometimes fast to play a level, and not much more than just this a. It would have been much more useful and more comfortable when the game would automatically save for a solved level.
But that is my only really big gripe with "New Super Mario Bros.". The game is fun and underpins once again why Mario is the absolute king of the platforming genre and why I still see the DS as the clear winner in the battle against Sony's PSP. In addition, you can - such as in "Mario Kart DS" - play against a friend, even if he himself does not own the game. And if they do so will be rewarded by the other game modes. That's the way it has to be!
