So people, now I will sometimes briefly give my two cents here. At the device is here a lot has been described and I will therefore not again recite all the functions here. That the device is basically on par with similar devices from Denon, Pioneer, Yamaha and Co., should be clear. Likewise, functions such as WLAN, Bluetooth, image upscaling, spotify, Zone 2, on-screen menu, insta-Prevue and other bells and whistles for beginners may indeed be interesting and noteworthy only nice accessories, the price range in this for me but simply has dabeizusein and operate. The most important thing is and remains the sound and here just the surround sound, as you as you can make the most wrong as a manufacturer (a normal stereo signal to reinforce reasonably clean on the stereo speakers, should now not be so difficult). and this sound Onkyo has been around lately a lot of discussion, because Onkyo has adopted at least in this price range of the additional module supplier Audyssey. this probably for cost reasons, either because the module is too expensive or because you could not even block a DSP processor due to the integration of computational intensive new sound format Atmos. What does this mean in concrete terms?
1. The Onkyo has no Audyssey room analysis system more, the quirks of the room and the pit-type and position are automatically recorded into the microphone, but only a new, short-term developed by Onkyo own creation called AccuEq. This course is also an automatic room analysis system (with micro), but the so Onkyo has added itself, measures significantly fewer parameters and changes as that in other room analysis systems is the case.
2. The absence of Audyssey module can now be even less in the LFD. Operating set than was the case earlier. There are no Dynamic Volume Control, no more DynamicEQ and otherwise you can adjust not much (Dialog Enhancement? Effect level control? None).
But what does that mean as a result? important is nunmal what comes out at the end, and here I can give the all-clear: It comes out good, clean, sophisticated, crisp sound! :-)
to 1. The new room analysis system makes Granted not much, but who does little, also makes little wrong! I had with Audyssey always feel that there has indeed sound extensively processed to, but also a lot of "verschlimmbessert" has !!
to 2): really, the people who play around a lot on dozens of setting options will be a little disappointed. But it is important just what comes out at the end, and here again: so = good sound.
But what I really need are functions that allow you the rampant momentum (in good German: neighbor-terrifying volume fluctuations and subwoofer earthquake followed by barely audible Flüsterdialogen) may modern BluRays mitigated. Here you have to consider, of course, that these functions of course did not sound improve, but the sound experience rather worsen by the compression. Nevertheless, it would be nice if you could at least the option late at night to enable something like this (yes I know, there is the "late-night function", but not for DTS-HD Master Audio, and so are nunmal most Blurays currently mixed!).
Conclusion:. Top unit with good sound, the future-proof Dolby Atmos and all the bells and whistles like Bluetooth etc. minus volume control makes me 4 points!
