The alternative to this kind of system can be cpl, very affordable now (and that providers offer free as default or not coupled with wireless). But a small device like the one we can connect and disconnect at leisure for specific operations can be quite handy.
Anyway, now that you entered the utility, go to wifi repeater in question:
- The contents:
----------------
Very careful packaging, all white as the product obviously to seduce lovers of apple or design, which is not necessarily to reassure me. But hey, if it does its job without being ugly, it does not complain (after the aesthetics of a device about 10 * 7cm connected at ground level on a socket does not move me).
It is white with a blue light circle more or less complete that flash to show current connections (WiFi, RJ45 ...).
We can not stop the repeater (no on / off switch), but just disconnect the machine after use.
The only button is the one used to synchronize with the router (and a more discreet reset button).
A network cable is provided, not very long (120cm), but it's really nice to have provided, if only for the installation if there ever has trouble with wifi.
- The doc:
----------
Tiny (like 2 mini sheets, I have not watched the cd).
And English, but it's not very complicated
Basically two situations:
* Either you have a router with a synchronization button that lets you easily connect devices (by pressing either side buttons to synchronize), and it should be extremely easy (see the above page or amazon reviews of other users).
* Or like me you do not have one, and you must go to the so-called universal method, not very complicated either
(Personally, I have everything configured wifi from a PC very easily):
1 / On Branch Repeater to an electrical outlet, not too far from the router (so that easily captures your network).
2 / On the computer: it searches for wireless connections around you (remember to wait a little that the repeater has time to boot and issue, and think about refreshing the search if you do not see)
3 / You will see your repeater appear: TPlinkExtender
At this point, you connect on him; you just wait until the connection is ok, then you launch your browser (Firefox, IE, Chrome ...).
4 / He will put directly on the repeater configuration page (otherwise see the address of the doc).
From there you are in the "QuickSetup) and follow the step by step your country, your wireless network password (WiFi Key) usual ... and voila.
Now when you connect to your wireless network, it will be by your router or through the repeater, seamlessly. So you will now be able to disconnect the transponder and place it at the relevant point in your apartment / house (see the tips on or in the doc com)
BEFORE LEAVING config, consider the CHANGING default login / password (in system tools), as it should be done on any router (if any wise guy may be remote access, and in addition the config page of your wifi repeater displays clear key).
- Efficiency:
---------------
I would be bothered to tell you right now if my cover is really significantly increased because there is no good objective way to quantify it: in fact you never know if you are connected directly to the router or by the repeater (except with pings I guess) and anyway, your connection is represented only by a few coarse bars.
So yes it seems to have won (bars), but it's the kind of thing that is somewhat variable over time.
By cons I'm eager to test the wire: great! (Just connect the cable supplied to the repeater and the device to be connected). Here I am with a possibility of RJ45 connection in the living room!
It is not for intensive use personally I plug the account / disconnect as required.
Otherwise, I think you really invest in Cpl (except to truly love the waves full puff pot with + slower and less stable rates than is possible in cpl).
IN TOTAL:
----------
I searched long a device like this, and this one seems to do its job for a modest price. For now I do not have much to complain about, but it's difficult to get an idea of effectiveness so little time.
Too bad there is still a RJ45 jack, but as I do not leave it plugged account repeater not 24/24, this single dose will be already well help me on occasion, if only for a more stable and fast connection for one-time downloading (and yes, some consoles seem to have wifi sensors m ... e!).
By cons, for a true and sustainable distribution of your network on all parts of your home, install CPL taken (easy and affordable now) still seems more suited (and possibly less harmful than amplify wifi in every sense ).
Last minute addition: to reedit your repeater configuration, it will use the provided internet address, but only on the computer that was used to install it seems t. In case of problem, it must be with the reset button to reset the machine and resume the installation from the beginning
